My best test taking strategies to ACE ANY EXAM

you've done your homework and studied then the test rolls around and boom it's like all your hard work was for nothing because test taking is so hard here's trick to Ace your test like breeze hey it's Amy as 4.8 GPA validator who got 35 on the ACT I'd say I'm pretty good at taking tests but it wasn't always like that under time pressure my chest gets really tight and my mind would go blank when that happened missed so many points because of careless mistakes the worst worst way to miss points just PTSD thinking about it know you lovely peeps took break from studying to watch my video so I'll make this straight to the point today you'll learn how to boost your score manage stress and improve time management make sure to watch to the end to see how prep my mind before the test even starts let's go vividly remember moments in AP Chemistry when on the test saw question and wasn't really sure what they were asking or didn't know if my answer was actually answering the question and so the trick here is to overd deliver the space left under the question was like this big but wrote tiny tiny handwriting squeezing into the margins just to brain dump everything possibly related to that question and that worked for me almost every single time because when you overd deliver you're inevitably going to hit some points that they wanted you to it's okay if you add extra stuff it's just like if you shoot arrows in the dark right the more you shoot you know some of them are going to hit and this really applies to any subject in philosophy in English too you know just write what you're thinking even if you don't actually hit the points sometimes your teacher will take pity on you and be like my gosh they tried so hard and give you some points trust me that's happened too and specifically for Science and Math always write your work even if you don't know how to get to that last answer that you Circle proudly write down the steps that you think you would take or just be as something like did in my physics class and under the pressure of taking test sometimes it's hard to remember key Concepts even if we studied them granted it's ideal to prepare so well that it's almost impossible for you to forget it so I'm not talking about the preparation part for how to remember key Concepts this is what do on the test itself try to think back to similar practice problems and how felt in that moment don't know the science behind how the brain does this but when you try to put yourself in that moment that you know you were in to review this you somehow make connection and something will come to you that helps you solve the problem this will relate to the section how to manage stress as well but sometimes you can take step back and pretend like you're seeing this question for the very first time with blank slate and then pretend like you are an expert if someone was asking you question about this concept that you forgot what would you tell them what relating Concepts that you do know could help you answer this question also like to think what mistakes did make before did forget to convert units did forget to check my sigfigs in chemistry and that will also help you not miss those easy points finally how think about multiple choice to maximize my score is what answer would bet my life on is sounds extreme but trust me it works tell my students this and it works first of all we need to understand that some stress is good life is not about having stressfree time on this Earth we need something to make us care little bit on the test we need good balance of little bit of stress and feeling positive you make better decisions when you're calm and not in rush so what like to do is give myself positive selft talk think about the accomplishments or things that struggled through and ultimately overcame before and tell myself if you've done that before you can get through this difficulty in this moment it's all about kind of psychologically tricking yourself just really believing in your ability to get through if that doesn't help also remember that these small moments these tests aren't going to make or break your whole life just do your best and be satisfied with the fact that you already tried your best before the test if you believe in the manifestation stuff like they talk about on the internet these days well you can also manifest that you are brilliant test taker and then you'll feel better another tip like to do is to approach the test like it's fun challenge think back to why tests even exist in the first place it's to test your understanding and how well you actually know the material it's game of how high you can score because games have fun element of stress just just enough of challenge such that you will still try and perform well if do get really nervous when see problem and I'm like wow really don't know this and start feeling that sinking feeling in my stomach will take deep breath try to clear my head and then read the problem again as if it's the very first time I'm looking at it often times on this Blank Slate something new might come to me and I'll be able to extract from my brain reasonably what the answer might be don't know if you guys are superstitious but am little bit I'm not superstitious but I'm am little stitious because think if wearing this thing or eating this thing might help me then why not like to give myself bit of luck before big events or tests for example this is year of the tiger zodiac t-shirt that actually designed with my tennis partner from high sure this will bring you lot of good luck on your test as well you'll be taking your exam and then seeing the red out of the corner of your eye and be like yeah I'm part of the team so that's why I'm going to ace this test this is the mindset to adopt the goal is to get through every single question as quickly as possible but don't sacrifice speed for precision as quickly as possible includes you giving enough thought into each question as you're trying to be fast the reason we want to have sense of urgency and get through questions quickly is because it's better to get through all questions and have some that you maybe skipped or you didn't know than to get through like 2third of the test and not even have the chance to get those points and see the questions that you might know in the last third of the test that would be Miss opportunities here's how to be faster on multiple choice when you get to question read the question stem first and then glance through the answer options because the answer options will inform you like shortcut about the direction you need to go in the first place for example in math if all the answer options are in fractions then you know you don't have to waste time converting things into decimals also sometimes the answer options are in an unsimplified format so again you don't have to take that extra step and go simplify your final answer in English or philosophy or history types of multiple choice questions reading the potential answer options will make you have better understanding to Target what the answer might be when you go back and read the full question again it's like giving yourself hint or sneak peek to know what to expect then you know the direction to already start thinking in before you put full effort into the question the moment you feel stuck instead of spending forever trying to get it what do is that will make kind of guess or write as much as know but then I'll put little Dash next to the number to show that want to come back to it and check it after got through all the other questions just skip it completely if you don't even have way to guess then Circle that question number so you know that that's something you have to fill in when you come back after you already got through the whole rest of the test this isn't for when you're taking the test itself but think it's really important to actually be good at time management really do lots of practice problems under timed conditions when you're preparing for the exam people complain about standardized test and like why is the ACT SAT so fast-paced well think it's kind of teaching you to do well in life too because as student you probably have to juggle lot of things with limited time so speed and precision are valuable things for you to develop so what do do right before the test to get myself in the zone well before really hard test if I'm nervous like to put myself in combination of two modes Zen and pump up know they sound like they contradict each other for Zen have no phone cut out absolutely anything that could stress me out or get my mind unfocused you know social media sometimes you see picture and very subconsciously you might feel bad about yourself or you might get jealous or you might think anything that is not constructive to you doing well on the test don't let those notifications even happen put yourself in full mode of focus sometimes like going on walk before look outside window talk to friend and laugh or stretch and to get pumped up like listening to confidence boosting music that's new genre guess literally have playlist called pumped up something like that on Spotify where had one directions drag me down like nobody can drag me down and I'll be like yeah nothing can drag me down it helps guys it really helps sounds silly because confidence helps with all three things boosting your score Stress Management and time management you are less likely to second guess yourself and keep checking question even after you've answered it the first time around once you answer it just move on just boom boom boom stay on roll get in the flow Zone be in deep work all of these terms wishing you the
