fruit of the spirit gentleness so part of God's story is about the fruit of the spirit and it goes like this the Bible says the fruit of the spirit is love joy peace patience kindness goodness gentleness faithfulness and self-control they're all good to have and they all come from God but for now let's focus on gentleness we're taught to be gentle with babies animals and other delicate things but gentleness is much more than that the Bible says gentleness is about how we treat others with our words thoughts and actions gentleness is choosing to care for others even if they may not care for us gentleness is when we help people who are hurting care for them love them and treat them as Jesus did with kind calm words instead of mean ones gentleness is skill God grows in us as we learn from Jesus and treat others as he did it takes at least four years before peach tree can produce fruit and like peaches gentleness can take long time to grow in us like anything you want to get better at you need to practice gentleness every day it might be easy for us to be gentle when we are around people we care about but the Holy Spirit can help us be gentle with all kinds of people and all kinds of situations gentleness can look like putting friends first even when you don't want to even when family member takes something without asking gentleness looks like loving others when they do things we think are wrong when we show gentleness we give others kind answer even when the word said to us may hurt our feelings now gentleness is not weakness or letting others mistreat you gentleness actually requires lot of strength self-control and thankfulness towards God and we show the gentleness of Jesus when we have gentle actions and kind words Philippians 4 5 says let your gentleness be evident to all the Lord is near Jesus is gentle when we show gentleness to others we're treating them the way Jesus would and as you experience God and grow in your faith the spirit can grow more gentleness in your life foreign
