this is the emotions wheel it's based on robert plutchik's model of emotions and the way that they're arranged has meaning i'm not going to go into that it's not teaching purpose here but have this up on my wall to anchor and to remind me about managing emotions and why emotional intelligence is so important why it's so personal in fact emotional intelligence as i've said in other times in other places is very rich as model but it's useful as tool and i'm much more interested in using as tool than trying to understand the intellectual foundations of it as model the thing that i've learned people who demonstrate emotional intelligence every day that are an inspiration to me are people on the front lines whether it's healthcare workers people who are in policing or are teachers in the public school system who are dealing with children from all kinds of backgrounds and they just have to manage their emotions and manage the emotions in their classrooms every day and so this is something that think about whether we're dealing with happiness or sadness fear or anger trust disgust anticipation or surprise the whole gamut of emotions we often experience multiple times throughout the day and so making emotion something that we're familiar with that we are friends with that we're comfortable with and can talk about and discuss and manage and use is my goal for my own personal practice and also what share with clients and helping them develop real emotional intelligence that's applied to their life so they can get things done in managing things better with people
