and we discussed about the rulings on rulings on domes the minat can we have it or not and what are the guidelines for it when is the exception when is it allowed and so on so we will continue from there and we said basically that domes and minates as you see here these are not originally these were not originally part of the Masjid so many years for many years the mosques of Medina and Makkah those sacred cities they did not have the domes or miners it was later introduced in the Muslim world so we discussed the history about it and we discussed also what Scholars said about it and we mentioned finally that if there is reason to have dome or minate then it is acceptable but Masjid no way is required to have domes or minates and even you know it is if it is not serving the purpose then we should not have domes or minates and we mention different examples and different exceptions like why do we need the dome for example letting the air in the sunlight and minates as symbol so that Travelers who are traveling can see the minat and come to the musque and so on so we when we tell people that you know domes are really not required they immediately jump and say you know what about the Masid ofh wasallam Masid we have dome just like have it here this is the picture from maid Nai they said we have the Dome there and when we build Masid we are going to have dome similar to it and we're going to make it green in color that too and so let's see want to take you to little bit of history when did this start ifas wasallam did not have the Dome during his time when did it start really so if we look into history by the way this Dome actually it is if directly beneath it is the grave of the Prophet Muhammad sallallahu alaihi wasallam okay so this is where the the chamber that's what they call it so it's beneath it and they exactly over it that's where the Dome is so people we're going to discuss about the issue of graves in the later but for now this Dome really during the time of sah when even when passed away there was no Dome and during the time of sahah and there was no Dome at all so what happened after around you can say 600 650 years later after the Prophet sallallahu alaihi wasallam passed away there was an Egyptian king Egyptian ruler with the name of Sultan also known as king Al zah Al Mansour he used to rule there and you know he saw at that time that there were lot of Christians in Egypt and they adorned their churches they decorated their churches with dome on top of it so it was common practice in Egypt and he said you know Muslims are more deserving of it and we have the truth and we should have dome as well so he went to Medina and he had dome constructed for Muslims it was the first time in the history of Muslims that the domes came into being and when he made it actually he made it out of wood it wasn't like this it wasn't like made of break it was in the form of wood and there was clearly an imitation of Christians at that particular time but then what happened for about 200 years that Dome of wood continued to be there and one day what happened there was fire and that the chamber and the Dome was fire and it was all burnt out so that happened in around 886 hury you can look it up and so what what they did when it was completely demolished they made it out of bricks at that point and that's when it started to be built that way and and it continued for about 180 years and then around just about 200 years ago you can say then there was this ottoman sultan or the Khalifa they they he actually painted the Dome green so if you see the green color it's continued from that time so initially it wasn't really green he made it green so it was wide it was it was reported also that was blue one time and then it was finally green in color now until this time we see the same Dome we see the green color and if you really look into this why it is still there and we said that domes are really not necessary in fact the seriousness of this issue is that you know it is built over the grave of prophet Muhammad sallallahu alhi wasallam that's when many scholars came in and said it's not only Masjid issue it is the grave of prophet sallallahu alaihi wasallam and that is the reason they said that this should not be there in the first place so you can think about it then why is it there you know aren't the scholars of Saudi Arabia so stct why aren't they taking the Dome out if they think it is not right to build it so they said that you know the government knows that it is not right but they did not take it down because they think that there would be FNA there will be chaos there will be fighting going on amongst the public today unfortunately what happened is that people they have developed lot of affection with this piece with this Dome so many people actually if you go into their houses they have this in the form of picture dome or minet right especially this the one in Medina and they and some people believe that having this picture in the house somehow brings blessings in the house so it has reached that level and also some people you know fall into shik fall into shik mean you probably not know but in India this is very common that you know people start worshiping anything and everything okay so everything is an idol everything is God so based on that cultural inheritance people you know start maybe even making du the structure you know to frame so so the prophet Sall wasallam you know he basically if you look at all the commands and everything he wanted to close all doors of shik right he wanted to close all doors of shik and he that's why scholar said that this shouldn't be there in the first place we should not this does not have any special you know blessing that will come into to your house and so on and if you remember one of the reasons why this is not being taken down is you know even during the time of sahu alaihi wasallam and you know when he was he went to Madina he was treated so badly in mecah so after seven years or eight years he had that battle actually it was called the conquest of Makkah without battle right there was no battle and wasallam became fully in charge of Makkah now he could go to Caba and so on and he had complete control over all that region now you know the cabba that he was seeing which is the same cabba that we see now he actually wanted to rebuild the cabba with the with the actual dimensions that it was built by ibraim alisam the way we see it now it is not the actual Kaa it's missing apart if you see the photos and everything there is an area called Haim area you know that's where many people like really fight to pray it's considered part of Caba so what happened during the time ofas Ali wasallam when they were rebuilding the Caba the pagans were rebuilding they fell short of money so they built Caba little bit less because they didn't had the enough braks the Halal money that they were looking for so they made it short so the point here that want to mention is that when rasool wasallam became the in charge person the ruler of Makkah he could have reconstructed the cabba but he did not you know and that when people asked him why he was not reconstructing he said that there are lot of Muslims somewhat to the fact that there are lot of new Muslims and they are really new in terms of their knowledge their feelings their emotions and now they have so much of attachment to the Kaa that if you break it demolish it and reconstruct again they are going to feel very upset they will be very angry and he feared that these people might actually leave the fold of Islam because remember they are very new so he at that point even though he had full control this is one of the wisdoms we learned from that based on the situation sometimes we compromise okay and even the structure of Kaa said that let let that go we will just worship we do ta the way it is right now and leave the area of hadim as is so since that time we see the same thing so the scholars basically mention the same thing that when there is threat of fitna of worldwide chaos going on then that is problem that we should not get into so that's the reason why wanted to mention this and you know we we we love there is no doubt about it in our we do not have anyone that we love more thanas not parents not friends not son not children not anybody not even ourselves we love Ras wasallam more than anybody else the only being that is more lovable than him is Allah subhanahu wa ta'ala okay so having said that love has boundaries okay when there is an exaggeration of love what happens people do wrong things that's exactly what happened to ISA Alam people used to adore him so much love him so much that slowly and steadily as the years passed away they turned this love loving person into what God Son of God right so the shik started so that's why we have to put boundary there and Scholars are very careful about it anything that comes into religion they check it so many times and they say no this is the door that can lead to shik just close it just close it so that is one of the reasons shik is as we know that it is one of the biggest sins it is the biggest sin actually so if person dies with shik there is nothing that can be done unless Allah subhah wa ta'ala has Mercy on him soam basically there's Hadith that we are also going to cover later on he clearly mentioned that do not build over the graves okay do not build over the graves so any built over the Graves has to be demolished this is Hadith in sah Muslim very authentic Hadith and this is the problem with this green Dome that it is built over our beloved Prophet sallallahu alaihi wasallam grave so anyways these domes so they definitely do maintenance on these okay so but the restructure uring that was done the actual brick that was made it was in 886 hij year that was when it was turned from wood to bricks and then it it went into lot of repairs and constructions now and then and this is what we have right now can we decorate Masjid so we have new Masjid now so we bought mid and you want to decorate it or maybe just for the events for example some people people want to you know maybe forid or so on can we decorate the Masjid with full lighting it's very common practice in many countries they just decorate it like function hall or you know just like marriage event or WMA event can we do that to the Masjid so we anything that we say we look up in either Quran or Hadith or the sources of Islam and this is there is Hadith to this effect where wasallam mentioned about decoration of mjid he said that it is sign of judgment is it is sign of judgment decorating Masjid is sign of judgment so basically he meant to say that when people start decorating the Masjid know that the time of the judgment is near so this was never done during the time ofas wasallam not the sahabah so many years passed by when people started to look in different cultures they saw different religions and they saw that they decorate their Temple so beautifully and it looks so beautiful we have the truth and we have the correct religion we should do better than them so they started competing and that's when it all went in so we can decorate the house as much as we want during the special occasions the eids the the WMA the marriages you know there is no restriction you can do but the houses of Allah we have to be careful it is not our house and if it's not our house we have to see who's the owner of the house and what does he want right so Allah subhanahu wa ta'ala definitely does not like such kind of decoration so we go by that so it should be avoided but do not make like big fight in the Masjid if somebody is doing it because again preventing FNA preventing chaos is the number one thing okay sometimes when you're are not if you are the only person refuting this could be very damaging but it has to be done in very wise way and some people we also see that they celebrate when it's an opening day of the Masjid it's new mask so you invite everybody from different places and they hold party or you know eating even celebrate is it permissible again from the history we do not find any such action being taken by the sahaba or anybody so it's it's okay to you know you know if you want to bring food and just give it for free from your store or or you know anything like that but holding like an event holding like you know special thing you know what happens is down the line it becomes part of the culture part of the religion now anytime anybody builds Masjid they say we have to have party now so when it becomes part of the religion that's where the problem happens otherwise there was no problem so we stop it there and then from getting into the Islamic okay now this is very important topic that want to mention this is the issue of Graves okay alhamdulillah in America we don't have this issue much if you go to other countries in the subcontinent India Pakistan Bangladesh and many Arab countries yeah Egypt is very common there it's very it's people have graves in the Masid and we need to really see what does Islam say about it can we have Masjid can we have grave in the Masjid can we go to pray to Masjid that has Grave in will our prayers be accepted or not and you you might say there there are no masjids in America but sometimes you know you have we have to know these things sometimes we give money to people maybe they run the mids in different country so you have to be careful who is managing that do are there the people who actively keep the graves of the Saints in the Masjid so we have to ask this things so there are two things okay very clear very straightforward you cannot build Masjid over the graves okay you cannot build it and if there is Masjid already in place and if somebody wants to worry the Masjid then that is also not lot so there are two different scenarios first there was grave and then you want to make that place Masjid okay so that is not allowed and if the second situation there is Masjid already in place and someone wants to put grave in there bury someone there so both situations it is not allowed so why do we say that how do we know that wasam for example there's so many Hadi can give you this one is in Abu in sahu alaihi wasallam he said all the Earth is mosque except two two places graveyards and which is the second one bath the washrooms or bathrooms right so in these two places you can not pray so when you are making the graveyard as Masjid also then it breaks this it violates this Hadith right straight straight forward so you cannot have Masjid there and then he also said that in sah Muslim Do not sit on Graves and do not pray towards them you do not pray toward them so if there's grave in front of you you cannot there's no way you can pray in front of them the only exception is what Jan the janaza prayer right so if the person is buried already you can go and pray Jan or him and and obviously there you do not do so that's not really Salah but that is the only exception and you know and there's another Hadith where in Muslim wasallam he said that those who came before you they took the graves of their prophets and righteous people as places of worship do not take Graves as places of worship for forbid you to do that and you you see this is such an authentic Hadith inkari and Muslim we know that these are the authentic books and this Hadith unfortunately people do not follow they do not want to follow because from Generations their ancestors have been doing the same thing so anytime saint very Pious person he dies they take his body Buri it in the grave or or you know wherever he's buried they make Masjid there and they start praying there so this breaks clearly you know this particular Hadith it says righteous people's places were taken as worship he warned it and by the way do you know when he warned about this Hadith there was time when he warned this you know and that was the time when he was on his death bed remember just imagine this he was on his death bed and many things are going in his mind and he picks very few things very important things and he mentions that and inshallah we'll cover this later on and one of the things he mentioned is about this do not do not do not take the places the of the the grave as the places of worship places of prayer so something somebody is saying this on the death bed and imagine how much serious that issue is okay it's not simple thing and there are lot of problems with this for example in one Hadith inkari we say that these persons who build place of worship over the graves they will be cursed wasallam mentioned this may the curse of Allah be upon the Jews and and Christians they have taken the graves of their prophets as the place of worship okay and he also mentioned that the same thing about the the righteous man who who dies and so on can quote you many Hadith and He also mentioned in mus Ahmed that among the most evil of people upon whom the hour will come when they are still alive are those who take Graves as places of worship so in the day just before the day of judgment there will be people and what they do is their specific characteristic they take the grave as place of worship all right so those were those will be the evil ones the most evil ones why is it so what's the big deal having grave and making it place of worship you know it's just the grave you know what's big deal in Our intention and our heart we are praying to Allah subhana so the reason is that this is again same thing wasallam knew that it is the door to shik it happened with the Jews it happened with the Christians and he knew that it will happen to Muslims so that's why he was so specific so careful and he said that no way you cannot have Masjid over grave okay let's see for example some scenarios okay so we have Masid here so maybe you are away and management is not here and some people they saw that okay this brother was very Pious and he passed away now instead of putting him in the graveyard what we'll do is just dig up place here and We will bury him here somewhere here in the corner so now you as person in charge when you come back what should you do he's already buried there can we pray in such mask so what it scholar said the great he mentioned many such scenarios and he said that in this particular situation the best thing to do is you it is permissible to dig up the grave and take those remains out and you can bury him in the graveyard this is permissible okay this is permissible said that and but what if you're not in Authority you cannot do that can we pray in such Masjid so the Sheik said that it is permissible to pray in such Masjid as long as the grave is not in front of the worshipper okay it should not be in the frame if directly buried there then no way you cannot pray you cannot go to that Masid at all so because forbid in the praying in the direction of graves that's common Hadith that we take always and so in second scenario example is there's already graveyard or just grave now people they collect money from all of us right we fundraising and everything they take it and where do they build the mid right at the graveyard now what do you do what should we do so again said that such Masid you cannot pray you cannot pray in such Masid because it was already grave or graveyard you cannot pray there okay either he said either the Masjid should be knocked down or the grave should be moved somewhere else if it's not possible to knock down okay because it's serious matter you cannot have Masjid and graveyard at the same place now another scenario also they discuss sometimes it happens for example you know you have graveyard here right like Muslims have their own gra graveyard for example right now that graveyard has been there for many years and now all of sudden the government says that you know there is plot exactly next to the graveyard we are selling it for very cheap now you as Muslim seat as an opportunity that we need lot of MK so we don't have any other cheap places like that so let's buy it so can we buy that plot which is next to the graveyard is it permissible because now you have the graveyard under under your name and now this plot is also going to be under your name so it's going to be one common area under the same organization for example right so is it permissible so the scholars said that it is permissible if there is wall between the two so what you have to do is just make wall obviously the Masid itself will have wall but you have to have another wall which clearly distinguishes between the two okay so that you're not praying towards the grave or graveyard all right now again the same reputation people will give you if you try to say all these things they will say you know wasallam okay forget about the Dome inits and all those things why is his grave inside Masjid okay that's Masjid and in fact that is the second most rewarding and blessed place after the mosque midam in Makkah and the prophet sallallah Al the sahab but now you said you can't say it was there during the period so why can't we have graves in the Masjid when Masjid anwi has the grave of not only the prophet Sall wasallam we have the graves of Abu bak and the great great sahab now what is the response to this so we say that when the Masjid na was first built by Prophet Muhammad sallallahu alaihi wasallam okay his house was not part of the Masjid okay and so and when he passed away and obviously as we know the prophets are buried exactly at place where they die and he happened to pass away in the house of who our mother and when he passed away they buried him there and even after burying that house was still not part of Masjid and it was two isolated plots okay it was next to each other but it was not part of the Masjid now it became part of the Masjid probably around 70 80 years after he passed away okay what exactly happened was that during the time of the Umayyads who came into the ruling was good you know was Pious people even during that time even the ruler and he saw that the umay the khif at that time was ALB Abdul Malik and he saw that the Muslims were increasing and the masjids or mad that particular Masjid is overflowing now he has to do something he has to extend and he has to build bigger Masjid and he said that we have to include the house of rasol alhi wasallam in this expansion otherwise it's very difficult to expand so at that time the governor of Medina it was the great Pious and very successful person Omar Abdul aiz okay he was also he later became Khalifa but at that time he was the governor of Medina so he was first you know was reluctant to do that he didn't want to do because again he had in his mind you know he shouldn't have grave in the Masjid and so on he was reluctant but he talked to lot of Scholars and everybody and they said no you know what for the benefit of the let's do it is okay is permissible it does not violate the Sharia commands so from that time onwards during the reign of Pious Muslims itself the Masjid was expanded and that's how it came into the picture that grave as part of the MK okay so the these are exceptions again just as mentioned some exceptional scenarios to you this is one of the exceptions you cannot take an exception situation and make it general situation okay so that's the reason why we cannot have grave in the Masjid let's get into the actual etiquette now we didn't even get into the etiquette so let's so what do we need need to remember what do we need to keep in mind when we are dealing with the Masjid okay so now the Masjid is established you are at at your home and you want to go and pray to the Masjid what is the first thing that you do you prepare for going to the Salah to the Masid okay and one of the etiquettes is that we say that you have to dress well when you go to the Masjid okay so you have to dress with humbleness okay so you don't necessarily have to dress like you go in marriage ceremony or WMA well if you do that's very good but the general rule is that you have to have the dressing of humbleness so okay if you just you have to say yourself will you go with this dress to your friend's house okay some people wear such clothes that they'll come wearing that clothes to the Masjid but if they want to go to their friends's house with that clothes they will feel shy it's not appropriate so if you feel that way then sorry then you shouldn't be coming to Mid with that clothes okay so that's how you have to mean you have to also think will go out in the market with this dress okay if it's not then you know you shouldn't you shouldn't really wear such dress same thing for sisters as well we're going to cover the sisters Masjid interaction and so on later on and also another thing is that the the perfume or any good smelling substance that should be put on by men only when they come to Masid and especially when it's and Eid you have to use perfume and and in general even now when you come for fer put little bit of perfume it's one of the good eates but again the whole idea is that you shouldn't smell bad okay if you're smelling bad then there is problem you know when we will talk about those the garlic and you know other false smelling things when you come to the Masjid but you know some people you know in summer season they are not really careful and they come to the Masjid maybe after game or something and they are smelling so bad especially coming from their AR armpits for example right so this is problem when you come with the smell in the Masjid then and if people are not able to have kushu then there is problem okay so keep something handy maybe in massages we should have maybe like ether bottle or something it's very common these days so so use it and inshallah it's it's going to be good issue number 12 this is the Dua of going to the Masjid so you are not really in the Masjid or at the doorstep of Masjid this is the Dua that you say while you're coming to the Masjid okay you're open the door of your house you're sitting in the car now you're coming towards the Masjid so there is Dua for it and there's this is very very beautiful Dua and we should memorize this what does it say this is about Dua of flight this is this is very easy because it's it's repeating okay and Allah Place light in my heart okay okay and in my tongue and put in my ears light and put light in my eyes so now these were the four organs you can say your the heart the tongue the ears and the eyes okay now these four are like the directions means what you should know this this is very common word in Quran means the back okay from behind Okay Place light from behind means front obvious right and means from up okay from above me from beneath which verse is very commonly associated with and so on right so it's very common word beneath which the the the you know the reverse flow okay and you finally say Allah bestow upon me light so it's all about light so what exactly are we saying here what light are we talking about okay so this light is you can say it's light of guidance okay and also you know when we go on the day of judgment when there is no light when we are espcially crossing on the we need light right so this is also form of light so different kinds but here mainly you know this is the kind of light that you need for living in this world we need guidance okay and you know and when we have this light we are not confused we are not doubtful we know what is right and what is wrong many times it happens to people that they don't know if this is right or wrong and you know they don't have the source of knowledge to learn it from anywhere okay Allah subhana wa ta'ala will place this light in your heart you know sometimes you know that even though you don't have knowledge in your heart you feel that you know there's something wrong in this there's something wrong in this that's because Allah has put some light in your heart and because of which you know that there's something wrong going on so this will help you live your life this light just like torch light Darkness you need it similarly this light NOAA all these places Allah is saying that well this Hadith this Dua is basically we're asking Allah subhana wa ta'ala that we get all this light you know our heart our eyes we should we should only see those things which are right we should protect ourself from things which are not right only hear those things which are right and appropriate and so on and also there's also reference of light in many Hadith right for example on this particular Friday what happens what do you do and because of which you get light very good if you recite what happens ofal and in particular the light you'll have light also as well right because of this till the next Friday inshallah and so
