one of the IBS objectives is to develop minds to help create better more peaceful world through intercultural understanding and respect Stockholm International Schools Model UN is an academic simulation of the United Nations led by the students that develops this approach and teaches its students about the importance of global issues and how to solve them collaboratively mariano hauteur reports from sweden you at the Stockholm International School in Sweden the United Nations General Assembly is gathering delegates from Russia the Philippines Qatar and others are here to discuss how to tackle challenges to globalization China Cuba in this session students between the ages of 12 and 18 who've been assigned to represent different countries are looking for ways to address climate change global energy requirements and economic development this may be model United Nations but it's no game sessions like these enable students to engage with big ideas in very direct way debating deliberating and developing solutions to global issues you've learned how to present yourself in front of an audience how to speak had to write professionally and just how to communicate with others in professional manner it's so much fun mean think don't think would have done this since seventh grade and really spent so much time working on it if didn't think it was fun part of the Esaias program since the early 90s the Model United Nations is open students from grade seven coaching each other and taking the lead Scandinavian and europe-wide Model UN events student leadership is key component we offer the Model UN for the younger students do have an early training and be exposed with different leadership role and have really seen them developed and be so engaged they start like on baby steps until they become like they feel like the ambassador for the country that they represent so we all see the development from the very beginning with 660 students from 60 different countries and settled teaching staff representing 30 nations global citizenship is at the heart of everything sis do we have the school that wants to value challenge and prepare the students for whatever comes in their future life and IB curriculum is exactly the type of curriculum that can help us achieve our mission the International Baccalaureate diploma program for ages 16 to 18 is broad and academically rigorous students take six core subjects including languages science maths and humanities they also study theory of knowledge submit an extended essay and take part in casts creativity activity and service we are in open enrollment school we have students with different range of abilities we love diversity and in our admissions process we try to get that diversity into the school and think when you see that we have children from all over the world think we are succeeding in our in our mission Geraldine beyond Stetson axel graduated from sis in summer 2017 with top marks and is now studying at business school in the United States the school's IB education was draw it's not memory game you actually have to learn and understand what you're learning teach it to others write about it lot of writing is involved lot of research is involved lot of interaction teamwork is involved so I'd say that prepares you for tomorrow not only in terms of as they say an adult working but think the in-between process of going to college it prepares our students for that would recommend the IB program would recommend sis as school the best thing ss has their staff their faculty and the curriculum the IB curriculum it's at the hearts of valuing challenging and preparing global citizens for the future
