Surah 68 Surah Al Qalam The Pen سورة القلم

Al the pen is chapter 68 in the Quran this mechan chapter was revealed to reassure Prophet Muhammad peace be upon him after the pagans of quray called him insane and accused him of being Madman the surra also came to praise His excellent character and confirm his Noble status and to warn The disbelievers Who deny his message the chapter opens with the letter new one of the disjointed letters that appear in the beginning of many suras this is the final Surah that begins with such letters these letters signify the miraculous nature of the Quran highlighting our inability to produce anything comparable to it even though it is composed of the very Arabic letters we use every day by the pen and what everyone writes Allah begins swearing by the pen which symbolizes knowledge wisdom and the significance of writing down what we learn by the grace of your lord you Prophet are not insane you will certainly have NeverEnding reward and you are truly man of outstanding character soon you and the pagans will see which of you is mad surely your lord alone knows best who has strayed from his way and who is rightly guided Allah promises the prophet peace be upon Him of great never-ending reward for his dedication to spreading Allah's message these verses also highlight the contrasting Destinies of the Believers and disbelievers stressing that the latter will soon realize their own Madness in the next few verses Allah encourages Prophet Muhammad to remain steadfast in the face of opposition so do not give in to the deniers what they wish you would compromise so they would yield to you Allah then warns the prophet not to concede to the disbelievers especially the likes of Al qurishi leader who called The Prophet Madman so Allah responds with these verses listing several of his bad qualities two of which were unknown to him at the time the fact that he was born out of wedlock and that his nose would be chopped off several years later during the Battle of bed and do not obey the Despicable vain oath taker slanderer gossip Monger withholder of good transgressor evildoer brute and on top of all that an illegitimate child now simply because he has been blessed with abundant wealth and children whenever our Revelations are recited to him he says ancient fables Allah would then inform Prophet Muhammad peace be upon Him of what will happen to him in future battle we will soon mark his snout foreshadowing of his inevitable place in Hellfire in the next several verses Allah would share the story of righteous man who owned garden and used to give share of the Harvest to the poor however after he died his children were greedy and decided to keep all the Harvest for themselves and give nothing to the poor in indeed we have tested those mechans as we tested the owners of the garden when they swore they would surely Harvest all its fruit in the early morning leaving no thought for Allah's will as result Allah sent punishment that destroyed their Garden overnight reducing it to ashes upon discovering its ruin they soon realized their loss was due to their greed and wrongdoing but when they saw it devastated they cried we must have lost our way after arguing and blaming one another for what happened they ended up repenting to Allah and acknowledge the wrongdoing they said woe to us we have certainly been transgressors We Trust our Lord will give us better Garden than this for we are indeed turning to our Lord with hope Allah accepted the repentance and replaced their garden with better one through this story Allah would show the disbelievers how he can punish them in this world the same way he punished the owners of this Garden leaving no doubt that their punishment in the afterlife would be far worse that is the way of our punishment in this world but the punishment of the Hereafter is certainly far worse if only they knew Allah would then show the difference between the fate of the Believers and the disbelievers indeed the righteous will have The Gardens of bliss with their lord if should we then treat those who have submitted like the wicked Allah would then ask several rhetorical questions to the disbelievers refuting the false claims they make exposing their absurdity and their lack of validity in such claims Allah would end the Surah by sharing the story of Eunice peace be upon him with Prophet Muhammad as lesson not to become frustrated with the pagans of quray the way Prophet Eunice was with his people so be patient with your Lord's decree and do not be like Jonah the man of the whale who cried out to Allah in total distress had he not been shown Grace by his Lord he would have certainly been cast onto the open Shore still blameworthy then his Lord chose him making him one of the righteous Allah then acknowledges the intense hostility of quray towards Prophet Muhammad peace be upon Him reminding him that this Revelation is reminder not only to the disbelievers of qur but to all of humanity the
