How to answer important exam question on the Periodic Table Chemistry Revision Years 7 8 9

okay so in this video we're going to take look at periodic table question okay that you might experience at keystage 3 so the questions on the periodic table and metals you've got periodic table split into sections you'll notice that in this question they haven't given you any elements okay this is testing your knowledge of where elements will be found in the periodic table so it says here that the gray area so that's this area here I'm highlighting in blue has Metals in it and they want to know which two areas contain only metal elements now they've labeled the areas and okay and what they're testing is that you rem that you're going to remember that here this will be hydrogen okay this will be group one and group two this block is the transition metals and that this block is the non-metals and the this block here will be the noble gases so the answer to this question is and being the group one and two metals and being the transition metals now the question goes on to talk about copper so it says here that copper is metal and at room temperature it is strong solid give two other properties that show copper is metal so they're asking you to recall the information you've been taught about copper now they want two answers and there there are several that you can give so we're going to go for the most obvious we know we use copper in wires so we're going to say that we use copper property of copper is to conduct electricity we don't have to write any more than that that's the first one then you can talk about you can talk about it melting point or boiling point okay CU they've given you clue here saying strong so what we're going to say what I'm going to go for is high melting point okay those are the two options on one and the other the other answers that you could have given that would have gotten you mark are that it conducts heat you can talk about it being duct or malleable so that we can change its shape slightly you could say it is shiny or it has high boiling point but if you just said it's strong or hard that's class is insufficient it wouldn't get you it wouldn't take away any marks but it will it won't give you mark okay right and then finally when copper is heated it will react with gas present in the air so they want you to think about what that gas is and it then says what is the name of the product that forms during this reaction so the information we're given here is it's going to react with the gas that's present in air your mind should instantly go to oxygen okay and so when copper reacts with oxygen they want you to link the two together to form the compound so the answer that they are looking for is copper oxide okay if you know your symbols and you write CU up that is also accepted okay right we hope that just gives you little idea of how you might answer question about the periodic table and different format in which you may see the periodic table because that's really important as well okay remember that we've got lots of other free videos on the YouTube channel check out the website as well and also remember that on the website there are lots of digital downloads that can help you editable worksheets with the answer sheets that will support your learning on and you can pick which topic you want to get them for as well you don't have to get them all and we'll see you again soon
