How to Fix Erosion Under Concrete PATIO MAKEOVER PART 2

النص الكامل للفيديو

hi everyone Alexa here from the blog the duvallhomestead.com today is part two of our patio renovation series and this step was very important one today we're going to talk about how to fix erosion under concrete slab or any void you have underneath concrete so I'm going to take you through the process of how we found out about this and then how we went about fixing it in hindsight it was pretty easy fix but we had some big mistakes that happened so we're going to talk about what happened to us and hopefully that helps you and you go to do it but basically as you see behind me there is huge gap between the concrete and the dirt this can happen with erosion there can also be permanent water source that's causing this if you have an issue you need to have that fixed obviously you need to have the source of the problem fixed before you do this step or else it's just going to happen again for us we knew that this was an erosion problem we had someone come out and talk about this in fact all of the houses kind of in our area may have this because for example log might be underneath the house when it was built in the log degrades over really long period of time and then you have this gap which of course is problem because the concrete can break and crack if there's big gap that would be really dangerous so so the first thing you want to do is estimate how big your Void is so for us this Gap right here went all the way underneath the entire concrete patio and starting on trying to figure out what's going on over here so we pulled apart the flower bed flower bed's pretty old and we noticed the solution happening along the patio here and initially thought that the erosion was only like three or two or three or four feet got the tape measure over here and you can see the tape measures over here right and then what want you to do is walk this way over here it's magic trick wow so this whole area is avoid right here the patio slab and so what we're going to need to do is figure out some way to reinforce it you want to use chalk to measure and estimate where the void is and how many CPVC pipes you'll need and where to place them purchases secure set polyfoam from the website now if you go to the website they also have great instructions there so you'll want to watch those as well I'll link that below so there's two ways of going about doing this if you can access the void directly you want to use CPVC piping if you can't you can drill holes in your concrete my husband John did the drilling method because he thought he needed to and then we ended up not using that the secure set has whole tutorial video on this method as well if that that's what you need to do okay so now it's time to get the foam kit set up and ready to go when you are projecting the foam it hardens really fast so you don't have lot of time so you want to do few dry runs to make sure that everything is in the spot you want to be and follow our tips that we're about to say because once it comes out it's going to happen very quickly and it will dry start with one pipe and slowly pull the pipe back while squeezing the trigger the foam will expand so you need to move quickly every seven seconds we pulled the pipe back about one foot so about one foot per seven seconds is the method that we used so we're gonna go backwards like start at that far end over there and then go backwards as he goes it's what's he gonna do when it's all the way at the top it's gonna have to bend it he'll just bend it it's like around the corner like that yeah once you see the foam coming through take caution the pipe is under lot of pressure so do not just remove the nozzle from the cbvc pipe or you'll get blasted with foam and it will be very difficult to get the foam off your skin and clothing and we know this because it's what happened to us so my dad and my husband were doing this together and once they finished the first pipe they were changing the nozzle to do the next one and they didn't wait long enough and they stole that pressure built up in the first one and it sprayed and that's why our video footage had to stop because they had to deal with that really fast it got over my dad's arm that was really bad so be very careful with that and cover it with towel or something in preparation for it to spray like that once you finish one pipe wait 15 seconds and place big towel over the nozzle and CPVC pipe connection and put this somewhere on the grass or wherever you are from there disconnect the pipe from the nozzle while the towel is over it blocking any spray or blast back this is what wish we would have done the first time and not had to deal with the spray continue this with every pipe connection or areas to spray into the concrete the foam will harden very quickly and I'm filming this video several months after this was actually done but I'll show you the clip right after it was done you'll see there's lot of yellow and orange at this in this Gap right here and now that's covered in dirt so once the foam is hardened you'll just want to add dirt or Shrubbery or grass or something to kind of cover up the foam because it's bright yellow okay well thank you so much for watching this tutorial on how to repair void or erosion issue underneath your concrete this is just one of those things that we did not think we're gonna need to do and then learned how to do and that's why want to share it with you as part of our patio renovation now stay tuned for next week because we're going to get into the more fun stuff at least in my opinion which is the decor of how we decide to create patio and back deck area all right thanks so much for watching if you're brand new to my Channel please hit that subscribe button every week post new
