Who Makes a Good LASIK Candidate

hi my name is Mike Sommerfeld one of the lasik surgeons at lasik plus here in Rockville Columbia and Baltimore wanted to talk to you little bit today about who makes good lasik candidate well the vast majority of our lasik cases do very well the reason why we ensure that they do well is that we choose good candidates for your procedure well everyone is unique we do follow us some general guidelines as to who makes good candidate number one your eyes need to be healthy you have to have healthy eyes healthy cornea healthy tear film no cataract and no retina diseases in order for us to ensure that you're going to be able to see well after you're replacing procedure one important thing that we're always looking at is your prescription your prescription needs to fit into range of prescriptions from plus six farsightedness to minus twelve nearsightedness with no more than six diopters of astigmatism for us to be able to properly treat you in addition to having prescription within the range of the guidelines your prescription also needs to be stable and not changing we don't certainly want to hit try to hit moving target during your procedure we are lasering the cornea so the cornea plays an important role when we do your LASIK procedure we take some of the cornea tissue with the laser in order to reshape and refocus your eye in order to ensure that you have enough corneal tissue left over there's minimum corneal thickness that you'll need to make sure that you have prior to LASIK that minimum thickness may depend on your individual prescription in addition to your cornea having minimum thickness we want to make sure that your cornea has proper shape so that we can ensure that long-term healthiness of your cornea after surgery all patients have to be at least 18 years old in order to qualify for leasing there are several contraindications to LASIK the most common is pregnancy during pregnancy your eyes may not be stable and you may have changing refraction in addition some of the eyedrops that we use after LASIK we don't want to use during pregnancy so if you're pregnant wait until afterward in order to have laser if you have diabetes we want to make sure it's under good control with normal email of an a1c prior to your procedure while the vast majority of LASIK surgery provides excellent results you should be fully aware of the possible side effects and potential LASIK complications prior to undergoing procedure the only way to know for sure if you're good candidate is to have one of our lasik Plex doctors do free consultation LASIK plus doctors will let you know if you're good candidate for LASIK surgery when you come to your appointment be sure to mention all the pertinent medical information so that they can make sure that you have safe procedure and LASIK plus we pledge to take good care of your eyes we'll do everything possible to ensure good results in the same surgery
