Russia's latest spacecraft has crashed into the moon. The Luna-25 took off atop the Soyuz -2.1b rocket on August 10th. It was launched from the Vostochny facility in Russia. The Luna-25 - called the Luna-Glob-Lander - entered the moon's orbit last Wednesday. While the spacecraft was entering pre-landing orbit, the spacecraft ran into issues and spun into an uncontrolled orbit. The engines, which were supposed to correct the craft's orbit when turned on, turned on but did not turn off as planned. They were supposed to fire for 84 seconds, but instead it worked for 127 seconds. The onboard thrusters worked to adjust the orbit before the crash, but evidently failed. Russians lost contact with the craft on Saturday and announced the failed mission on Sunday. The space agency reported contact was probably lost because of the crash and not because of communications failure. The robotic spacecraft was trying to land near the moon's south pole. Luna-25 - Russia's last successful rocket was first launched in 1976. That launch took place during the former Soviet Union period. If the Luna-25 had been successful, Russia would have been the first country to make soft landing on the moon's south pole. The south pole is believed to be the site of water stored on the moon's surface based on data from the sensors of other lunar spacecraft. The water would be in the form of ice and would be frozen in craters that are in shadow and shielded from the sun. The Luna-25 had scientific instruments to study lunar soil and to detect surface water. Since it failed, India may be the first nation to land in the region, which is the least explored part of the moon. India's spacecraft, Chandrayaan-3, is expected to land there this week. All eight people who were stuck inside Pakistani cable car in the middle of the air have been rescued. On Monday, six school children were on their way to school when the cable car broke down. Some of them had been trapped for at least 12 hours. The occupants had been stranded in the cable car when it became snagged at dangerous angle above one of Pakistan's remote valleys. The car was located at ravine which is about 200 kilometers from Islamabad in the mountainous region of Battagram. It was dangling around 274 meters above the ground. Military helicopters and zipline experts cooperated in the rescue, and freed eight people from the car. Worried crowds gathered on both sides of the ravine to watch as army commandos and civilians worked together in the rescue. lowered airman delivered food, water, and medicine to those who were stranded. The chairlift had broken at about 7:00 in the morning. Two of the children were finally rescued and taken back to ground before dark, but the last three people were rescued late on Tuesday. The rescue had to be paused couple of times because of high winds and darkness. The car's cable that usually keeps it from falling into the valley was used as zipline by the last of its occupants. Rescuers set up temporary camp on the top of the mountain to provide first aid. Cable cars are known for carrying passengers - and sometimes even cars. They are common across the northern areas of the Khyber Pakhtunkhwa province in Pakistan. They are important as they connect villages and towns in places where roads can't be built. They are made using scrap metal and are built illegally because communities have no other choice. nurse in the United Kingdom has been sentenced to life for murdering seven babies. The former neonatal nurse, Lucy Letby, had been employed in the neonatal unit at the Countess of Chester Hospital in northwest England. The deaths took place there between June 2015 and June 2016. During that time, Letby preyed on sick newborns and their parents. She hurt the newborns in different ways, including injecting air into their bloodstreams and administering air or milk into their stomachs with nasogastric tubes. While she was employed at the hospital, there was an increase in the number of babies who were declining in health or dying at the hospital. Letby was on duty during each of those cases. There did not seem to be an explanation for those deaths, and it turned out that Letby managed to persuade others that the deaths and collapses were normal. It was difficult to detect what had actually happened. group of senior doctors expressed concern about Letby in October 2015. They believe some of the children could have been spared if the hospital's management had responded to their concerns. The managers did not respond to the urgent request and the deaths continued until she was removed from her duties in late June 2016. She was arrested in 2018. Letby was found guilty of killing five boys and two girls, and for attempting to kill six other babies. She will serve life in prison with no chance of parole. The jury deliberated for 22 days before giving their decision, and the judge then gave her the life sentence, which is the most severe sentence allowed by British law. The death penalty is not allowed in England. She has continued to deny all charges and has continued to maintain her innocence. Civil servants in Jakarta, Indonesia will begin to work from their homes to fight pollution. By October, 75% of the workforce should be working at home. Jakarta's government has assured the country's citizens that the new policy will not apply to hospitals, fire or rescue services, and to public transport. The change will not affect public services. In addition to the new policy, schools will begin to enforce remote learning for their students starting in September. Jakarta has enacted the changes because of increased traffic congestion and the resulting air pollution that has gripped the country. Jakarta has huge population with 10.5 million people, and the city's air quality has recently deteriorated to dangerous levels. Swiss company has estimated the city to be the world's most polluted city. That ranking was released on August 9th. On August 14th, Indonesia's President Widodo called for an emergency meeting by the government to discuss air pollution with his cabinet. He made an appeal to workers in the capital, asking them to respond by working from their home. He explained that the dry season over the last three months had intensified the situation and suggested hybrid work systems for businesses in which people would work on and off site both. Since the city has factories, coal-fired power plants, and high levels of traffic, there are many factors contributing to the city's smog. Jakarta is particularly concerned about the pollution since it is hosting the 43rd ASEAN Summit in September. ASEAN is summit of 10 Southeast Asian countries who all have suffered from high pollution levels in their big cities. Thank you for watching WorldSign Week.
