Diagramming and Parsing Nouns

النص الكامل للفيديو

hey so today we're going to be looking at noun diagramming and the noun parsing so remember earlier this week we talked about different characteristics of nouns being that they are either common or proper they or they are either singular or plural or you can also have noun that is going to be regular or irregular so you definitely want to be thinking about those characteristics the other thing that we said earlier this week is that we're looking for the noun job every now and has job to play and has part in sentence right and we we want to make sure that we're looking at the noun trying to identify what that noun job is right noun could have the job in the subject as subject noun it could even be there could be an object of the preposition in the subject if you had prepositional phrase in the subject or something like that but then you could also find nouns in the predicate right you have predicate noun you also have your object of the preposition that you can find in the predicate you can find have direct object and interrupt indirect object there are lots of different noun jobs that you can have in sentence and we've talked about that little bit this week but today we're going to specifically talk about when we're parsing out these sentences that have nouns in both the subject and the predicate what does it look like for us to parse them but also to diagram them so we're gonna do that together in this lesson and the first sentence we're gonna look at is Isabella rode her bike around the bridge hey Isabella rode her bike around the bridge now we want to make sure that we are asking questions of the sentence to be able to sort of classify it so we can make sure we're on the right track when it comes to parsing and then diagramming okay so let's go ahead and take look Isabella rode her bike around the bridge is there any action in this sentence yes there is action Isabella Road so Road is our verb and therefore we already see that there's going to be partition between Isabella and then rode her bike around the bridge Isabella is the one who rode okay so it's subject noun for Isabella and Isabella is the subject not only is it is she the complete subject but she's also the simple subject in this sense as well so we know that rode her by around the bridge is going to be the predicate now the next question that we ask is what did Isabella ride well Isabella rode her bike okay so bike is direct object because it is the object that is receiving that action it is the direct object and whose bike was it her bike possessive pronoun adjective alright then you asked the next question is there another noun in this sentence there is bridge the question is is it connected to the rest of the sentence by anything and the answer is yes it is connected by around so around is the preposition bridge is the object of the preposition so that is our prepositional phrase and is an article adjective okay so that's the way that we can go ahead and classify out this sentence Isabella rode her bike around the bridge now whatever we're looking at the parsing portion of this and remember when we're parsing out the sentence we're looking specifically at taking the nouns that we've identified and going ahead and parsing them out so I'm gonna circle Isabella because that's one of the nouns also know that bike is noun and bridge is noun so I'm gonna start with Isabella and I'm gonna parse out Isabella Isabella is proper noun singular regular and Isabella is the subject noun that's the job the noun job for Isabella then I'm gonna take bike now bike is common bike is singular bike - the plural is bikes you add an so it's regular and bike is the direct object that's the noun job the next one is bridge now bridge is common bridge is singular and to the plural when it moves to the plural its bridges you're adding an so it's regular and the noun job for bridge that we classified above is the object of the preposition so how many nouns are in sentence 1 there are three nouns in sentence 1 there is subject noun there is direct object and there is an object of the preposition ok all right let's do another one number two Jack played football with his dad Jack played football with his dad let's go ahead and classify the sentence together and the first question that we ask is is there any action in the sentence the answer is yes played so played is the verb who played Jack played subject down so we underline jack once and we underline played football with his dad twice because that's the complete predicate what did Jack play football so football is the direct object because it is receiving that action of played what is being played football is being played and to whom did Jack play football he played with his dad well dad is noun the question is does it get connected to the rest of the sentence by anything and the answer is yes it gets connected with with and we know that with is preposition so dad is an object of the preposition and his dis is describing whose dad it's his dad so it's possessive pronoun adjective okay all right so we've classified our sentence now we need to parse out our sentence by circling our nouns jack is noun football is noun and dad is also noun so we're gonna parse it out Jack right Jack is proper right Jack is singular jack is regular and jack is subject now alright football football is common football is singular the plural of football would be footballs you're adding an so that's regular and the now job is direct object the last one is dad dad is common because it's not the specific name of the dad dad is singular and it is regular because the plural form is typical noun is typical plural ending right dad to Dad's so you're just adding an ok and it's an object of the preposition so we have three nouns in this sentence one is subject noun what is direct object and what is the object of the preposition okay now let's go on to number three you oval adjunct to the sound of the drum when we classify this sentence we start by asking is there an action the answer is yes jumped verb who jumped uvula jumped subject noun so we're gonna go ahead and underline uvula once an underlined jump to the sound of the drum twice okay now we look at the rest of the sentence and there are two two more nouns in this sentence sound and drum now the big question is do those get connected to the rest of the sentence well see two prepositions know that 2 is preposition and know that of is preposition ok so know that sound is an object of the preposition and drum is an object of the preposition so these are my prepositional phrases as an article adjective so have Bella jumped to the sound of the drum have two prepositional phrases to the sound and of the jump now when parse out my nouns I'm in circle you Bella I'm gonna circle sound I'm in circle drum yo Vela it's proper hey yo Vela is singular yo Vela is regular and that is subject now for the noun job the next one is sound which is common it is singular it is regular because sound - sounds you're just adding your regular ending and sound is an object of the preposition drum is our third and final one drum is common drum is singular drum is also regular because the plural form is drums ears adding your regular ending and drum is the object of the preposition so we have two objects of the preposition and one subject noun and three nouns in total now what want to do is want to go back to these three threw through these three examples and wanted to diagram them with you okay so let's go ahead and do that with number one all right I'm gonna begin with just typical diagramming skeleton so it's going to be Isabella Road and Isabella Road what did she ride bike okay whose bike her bike and where did she ride it this bike around the bridge so it's round bridge and it's the bridge okay so that's the way that we would diagram this particular sentence all right remember your subject nouns here okay then your verb then your direct object then your possessive pronoun adjective is here and then your prepositional phrase is here preposition here object of the preposition here an article adjectives here let's look at number two Jack played football with his dad what sounds like lot of fun by the way let's go ahead and diagram this out simple skeleton Jack it's subject noun played is the verb what did Jack play remember our object is here he played football and who did he play football with well he played with his dad that's the prepositional phrase and it is adverbial so it goes underneath the verb so it's played with dad and then his dad okay so we have our subject noun here we have our verb here we have our direct object here and then we have our prepositional phrase here with our preposition here object of the preposition here and then the possessive pronoun adjective describing whose dad it is there alright so this is the way that you diagram does sentence okay looking at number three uvula jumped to the sound of the drum again our diagramming skeleton we begin with yo Vela which is the subject noun or who is the subject noun excuse me and then our verb which is jumped okay and I'm gonna make it extra long line here for jumped because both of our prepositional phrases are adverbial meaning that they will be connected to that verb right because they are helping us understand the verb more knowing exactly what uvula is jumping to and jumping off okay so here we go so it is two sound and it's the sound and of drum the drum so these are our two prepositional phrases that are part of our sentence you fell jump to the sound of the drum and this is the way that you diagram this third and final sentence okay alright hope you enjoyed this lesson do your very best on the exercises that are part of this and we will talk again another time see you later
