welcome to math with mr in this video i'm going to cover adding two digit numbers using base 10 blocks without regrouping and we have two examples that we're going to go through together in order to get this down now using base 10 blocks is going to help us visualize these addition problems it's also going to help our overall understanding so let's jump into number one where we have 32 plus 14. now the base 10 blocks that represent those numbers are to the right 32 up top and then 14 down below our ones are lined up and the tens are lined up now when we add we always start with the ones so we start with two plus four so we have two ones from 32 two in the ones place plus four ones from fourteen four in the ones place so two plus four is going to give us well one two three four five and six ones two plus four is six now for the tens so 32 we have 3 groups of 10 that 3 represents 3 groups of 10 or value of 30. now the 1 in 14 represents 1 group of 10 which has value of 10. so that's represented right here so we need 3 plus 1 that's going to give us 1 2 3 4 groups of 10. so we put 4 in the tens place and our final answer is 46. now the 4 and 46 represents those 4 groups of 10 and has value of 40. the 6 represents those 6 ones and has value of six let's move on to number two where we have fifty-seven plus forty-two again we always start with the ones so fifty-seven we have seven in the ones place that means we have seven ones plus 42 has two in the ones place so we have two ones seven plus two that's going to give us one two three four five six seven eight nine ones seven plus two is nine now for the tens so for 57 we have 5 in the tens place that's represented right here that 5 has value of 50 it represents 5 groups of 10. the 4 and 42 well that represents 4 groups of ten and has value of forty so we need to do five plus four one two three four five six seven eight and nine so 5 plus 4 is 9 and that's 9 total groups of 10 and has value of 90. so the 9 in the tens place has value of 90 and then the 9 in the ones place has value of nine our final answer is 99 so there you have it there's how you add two digit numbers using base 10 blocks those base 10 blocks really help us visualize the problems so hope that helped thanks so much for watching until next time peace
