What is Simile All things you need to know

Dear friends, welcome to EME, English Made Easier, channel just for you. In the series of figures of speech, I'm going to introduce simile in this particular session. Since my childhood, my mother has been quoting particular quote that states, "Life is like box of chocolates. You never know what you're going to get." Isn't it enthralling to compare the uncertainty of life to the uncertainty of choosing chocolate from box? So, simile is basically comparison of two unlike things using the words like or as. The purpose of using simile is just to explain or express an emotion and to make writing more vivid and entertaining. Here, would give you few everyday examples to give clear picture of simile. When you come across person who says, "I'm as busy as bee," doesn't mean that the person is bee. It means comparing one's level of energy to fast-flying bee. The other day, my friend pointed to her classmate and said, "She looks as snug as bug in rug." Which actually meant that the classmate was cozy and comfortable just like bug can be in rug. Similarly, my grandfather, who was hunting for his spectacles, stated, "Without my glasses, I'm as blind as bat," indicating that he could not see any better than bat without his spectacles. Similes are great for famous authors, public speakers, and poets who want to make their writing as exciting as spontaneous show of fireworks. Here are few examples from famous writers. wandered lonely as cloud that floats on high over vales and hills." Here, William Wordsworth compares the loneliness of wanderer to lone cloud in the sky in his poem, The Daffodils. Similarly, in the poem, The Rime of the Ancient Mariner, similes have been used in numerous places. few of them are here. "The bride hath paced into the hall. Red as rose is she." Here, the bride has been compared to rose. Another example is, "The water, like witch's oil, burnt green and blue and white." Water here is being compared to the witch's oil. "Day after day, day after day, we stuck, nor breath, nor motion." "As idle as ship upon painted ocean." The motionless ship and ocean are here compared to painting.
