It’s the end of 2021 and the year couldn’t end sooner. As the world still comes to grips with pandemic but there are still parts of the world where chaos rains. With the departure of the US military from Afghanistan, terrorist groups called the Taliban have taken control of the country. To start their reins they have imposed Shari’a law in their country. You may be thinking what is this Shari’a law. Is it the same as the law that all the other countries use? Or is it something that’s is totally different? It’s the Muslim law to To lead life according to God’s wishes. One of the literal meanings of Syria is “The clear and trodden path to water”. It’s derived from the Islamic holy book called the Quran, deeds, and sayings of the Prophet Muhammad. It helps them navigate every aspect of their life. Imagine if your colleagues invite you to pub. You’re Muslim and you are divided with your faith towards God and obligations to your colleagues. In such instances, Muslims can turn to Sharia scholar for advice. Family finances and business are some of the other areas where Sharia offers guidance. Sharia is not static, it is derived differently in countries based upon the schooler's interpretations. These are some of the positive practices in Sharia law 1. MEHER is similar to alimony after divorce for wife. 2. People are obligated to participate in charity irrespective of their wealth or income. 3. In the untimely death of the parents, all the kids irrespective of their gender are given equal distribution of wealth. 4. All Muslims have to read the Quran so all should be literate. 5. Women and men are given equal access to knowledge. 6. Abortions are allowed in the first trimester. 7. Women are allowed to inherit property and are not obligated to share it with their husbands after marriage. These were some of the Sharia laws practiced that were way ahead of their time. When compared to the laws in the modern world, Sharia laws are something that is very similar to the laws of the court in almost every part of the world. Sharia law does come with harsh punishments for rule-breakers. 1. People who are involved in theft get their hands cut off. 2. There are beheadings in extreme cases such as people found guilty of rape. So the next time you think of robbing, think of your arm getting chopped off. 3. The drinking of alcohol is punishable by flogging. 4. The law also allows for literal eye-for-an-eye punishment, known as "qisas", in cases of personal injury But under the rule of the Taliban, their misinterpretation of the Sharia law women have little to zero rights.
