Hadith 6 Doubtful matters The 40 Hadith Nawawi Ustadh Asad Khan

النص الكامل للفيديو

this is the sixth part in our series of reflections on the of that he has collected in his and inshallah today we'll be discussing the sixth hadith where he says that it is narrated on the authority of who said, heard the messenger of Allaham say that which is lawful, that which is halal is clear, and that which which is unlawful, that which is haram is also clear. And between them, between the two, between that which is halal and that which is haram, there are there are doubtful matters which many people are not aware of. Right? Thus he who avoids the one who avoids the doubtful doubtful matters clears himself in regards to his religion and his honor. And he who falls into the doubtful matters falls into that which is unlawful. Like the one like the shepherd who pastures around sanctuary all but grazing within it. Truly every king has sanctuary and truly Allah sanctuary is his prohibitions. Then he says truly in the body there is morsel of flesh which if it is rectified all of the body is rectified. And if it is corrupted, all of it is corrupted. Verily that morsel of of flesh is the heart. And this is narrated by imari muslim in their authentic collections. Now the sahabi who narrated the hadith is who was very junior companion of the prophet sallallahu alaihi wasallam. He was born about 14 years after 14 months after the hij of the prophet sallallahu alaihi wasallam and both of his parents were companions his father and mother were both companions and they were from the so he narrates the hadith and in the hadith we find that there's actually two parts of the hadith right the first part of the hadith discusses that which is halal and that which is haram right and in the first part of the hadith the prophet sallallahu alaihi wasallam says that there are issues that that there are matters that are clearly haram and matters that are clearly halal and that everybody knows about them. These matters the rulings regarding them are regarding them are known to everybody. For example, everybody is aware that eating some type of fruit is halal and drinking milk is halal and that it is haram for one to eat the flesh of swine and for one to drink wine. Right? These issues are clearly halal and clearly haram and everybody has knowledge about them. But between the two, between that which is clearly halal and that which is clearly there is there are there are doubtful matters right where the prophet sallallahu alaihi wasallam says most people are not aware of what the ruling is regarding them. Here from the statement of the prophet sallallahu alaihi wasallam where he says most people are not aware of what the ruling is regarding them. We understand that there are people who are who are aware of what the ruling is regarding them. Right? And here we see the difference between people of knowledge and people who don't have knowledge. And that is something that distinction that even Allah subhanahu wa ta'ala makes in the Quran and shows us that we should have respect for our the scholars of our tradition, those who spent their lives studying and serving the dean. But one what should one do if they're faced with situation where they're not sure whether it is halal or haram? It's doubtful matter. The prophet sallallahu alaihi wasallam explains that if such person stays clear of the doubt from doubtful matter then he has been protected from accountability his dean has been protected and his honor has been protected. But if somebody falls into that into that doubtful matter then the prophet sallallahu alaihi wasallam says then he has fallen into that which is haram. Right after that the prophet sallallahu alaihi wasallam gives us an example and this is something that we mentioned previously is from among the eloquence of the prophet sallallahu alaihi wasallam and his clarity in speech right that he would mention concept and follow it with with an example so in the example the prophet sallallahu alaihi wasallam he gives us the example of shepherd who's pastoring his cattle around sanctuary that he should not be entering but the boundaries ies of that sanctuary are not clearly defined. Right? So, he's pastoring his cattle around the sanctuary where the boundaries of it are not clearly defined and he's not supposed to be entering it. But because the boundaries are not clearly defined, he's unaware of where he's supposed to stop, right? And he's chosen to graze around it, it's very likely that he will end up entering it. And the example of us is the same way that if there's matter which we're which we're not sure whether it's halal or haram, we're not aware of when the haram starts and when the halal ends. And if we dare to venture close to that sanctuary, right, in the sanctuary of Allah subhana wa ta'ala, that which we're not supposed to enter are is that which is prohibited. And if we're not sure of where it starts and where it ends and we dare to venture near it, we will end up falling into that haram as well. And that is the first portion of the hadith. In the second part, the prophet sallallahu alaihi wasallam talks about the heart where he says that there is morsel of flesh or piece of flesh within the human body that if it is rectified the entirety of the body becomes rectified and if it is corrupted the entirety of the body becomes corrupted. And he says indeed it is that morsel of flesh is the heart. And this brings up the discussion that we had earlier or previously where we said that often times we make the mistake of being solely focused on the outward actions being solely focused on going through the motions and performing the rituals and we forget that there is also an internal journey an inward journey that we're also supposed to take to Allah subhanahu wa ta'ala which also requires our intention and it also requires effort on our behalf in order to build that relation. relationship and that connection with Allah subhanahu wa ta'ala that the all of good all of the good that we do its root is it is at the heart and all of the evil that we end up doing its root is also at the heart and if the heart is rectified then all of our actions are also rectified. Now the question then here is what is the link between these two parts of the hadith? What is the far first part of the hadith where the prophet sallallahu alaihi wasallam is saying that the halal is clear and the haram is clear. What does that have to do with the second part of the hadith where the prophet sallallahu alaihi wasallam says that if the heart is rectified the entire body is rectified. The scholars say such as they say that the reason why the prophet sallallahu alaihi wasallam mentions the second part of the hadith is because the the relationship between the two is that the temptation of falling into the haram and falling into that which is doubtful which leads to haram is due to weakness in the heart and that if one were to strengthen their relationship with Allah subhanahu wa ta'ala and if one were to purify their heart then remaining within that which is halal and refraining from that which is doubtful and from that which is haram would become lot lot easier and that inward process of purification of the heart also requires effort attention and it's for that reason that we have these classes withh Muhammad Tuskia sessions that are live streamed daily that would recommend everybody and obviously reminder for myself to always join and attend so that we may benefit from them and so that we may Allah subhana wa ta'ala may grant us the dhi to rectify our intentions purify our hearts and we ask Allah subhanahu wa ta'ala to also grant us the ti to remain within that which is halal and to refrain from falling into doubtful matters and falling into that which is haram mean so that concludes our discussion on the sixth hadith inshallah we'll continue same time tomorrow with the seventh hadith
