in this challenge innovate grow learner series we will examine what higher ordered thinking skills are and we will also take closer look at each individual skill higher ordered thinking skills are skills that go beyond basic memorization of knowledge they are transferable skills and can be applied to all subjects and all aspects of real life there are six levels of higher ordered thinking and each brings new level of cognitive complexity level one knowledge and recall this level consists of the ability to memorize and recall definitions key terms facts and details for example students will be able to list the key facts behind what they have learned but may not understand what these facts mean exactly level two comprehension and understanding this level consists of the ability to summarize and explain concept or topic for example student will be able to to describe translate summarize or highlight exactly what fact means level three application and context this level consists of the ability to apply or transfer learning to real life context for example students will be able to identify relationships and connect between their learning and real world context level four analysis this level consists of the ability to break knowledge down into its parts then examine and explain each part for example students will be able to break down learning into its component parts identifying patterns causes and making inferences level five synthesis this level consists of the ability to develop opinions and make decisions based on set of criteria for example students will be able to use knowledge to build structures form new meanings and ideas accordingly level six evaluation this level consists of the ability to develop opinions and make decisions based on set of criteria for example students will be able to make judgments or defend ideas using sound analysis of evidence thank you for joining us for this episode please join us again next time when we will examine what the benefits of using higher ordered thinking are if you have enjoyed this episode please give it thumbs up subscribe to the channel and press the notification icon so you can be alerted whenever we release new episode
