specialization is great way to bring up lagging muscle group especially if you are more advanced basically you are doing more work for certain muscle or two muscles or lift so obviously if you can recover from that more work you're gonna progress more in that muscle now if you are to benefit from specialization you need to do it properly otherwise it just won't work first you need to decrease the amount of work for other stuff equivalent to the amount you put into your workout when you put something in you must take something out so if you had for example 20 sets for couple of muscle you will need to remove those sets from other muscles otherwise the overall stress of the weekly workouts will be too much for you to recover from and you won't benefit from your specialization now also you must try to spread that work over two or three days rather than doing all that humongous volume on one training day that you can recover from and lastly once your specialization block is over then you must dramatically decrease the amount of work for that muscle or those muscles so that they become more sensitive to training again because the more you train the more likely you are to make muscle resistant
