more than everyone this will be quick video aiming to help you identify the imperative verbs in sentence and gain an understanding of how they work this video will be part of short series of videos looking at the different types of curbs I'll put link in the description to the other videos as well as link to the slides which you can download for free if you want them I'd suggest watching the video that explains what verbs are first and then coming back to this one and there are lots of different types of verbs some of which are listed here but this is an even full list there are many more types of verbs we're just going to focus on one of these today and today's type of verb is an imperative verb these are verbs that give commands or orders so if you tell someone to do something you're using an imperative verb what's unique about imperative verbs is that they fall into some of the different verb categories you can have imperative verbs that are also dynamic in walk away imperative verbs that are also stative such as please believe me and imperative verbs that are also phrasal verbs such as stand-up it's worth noting that as with lots of grammar imperative verbs are completely context dependent so whether verb is imperative or not depends on what the sentence actually says as whole an example vien decided to run to the car because of the rain now there's no command involved so run is not imperative however in the sentence run to the end of the field and back we're being told to do something it's command so in this instance run is imperative pause the video and see how many imperative verbs you can pick out from the box on the right but remember it does depend on the context of the sentence you put them in if you want to challenge yourself try and identify the imperative verbs in this extract from The Adventures of Sherlock Holmes by Sir Arthur Conan Doyle and that is imperative verbs in nutshell try out an imperative verbs through your revision cards and add them in through your next analysis to boost your marks thanks for watching and happy revising you
