Welcome back. In this video, we're going to explore five sound devices. Sound devices are types of literary devices that emphasize sound. Writers use these devices to create interest and appeal as well as adding musical quality. These devices are often used in poems, stories, and songs. In this video, we will be focusing on the following sound devices. Alliteration, anomatopia, rhyme, asinants, and consonants. That's the magic of alliteration. Alliteration is when the same or similar sounds repeat at the beginning of words or in stressed syllables. It's clever way to grab attention and is often used in poetry, advertising, headlines, and even tongue twisters. For example, in the Harry Potter series, many names are crafted with alliteration such as Godric Gryffindor, Helga Hufflepuff, Rowena Ravenclaw, and Salazar Slytherin. Bang, crash, swish, thump, boom. You may have seen these words and others like them in books and comics you have read. These are all examples of onomatopia. Onomatopia refers to words that mimic the sound they refer to. Put more simply, these words sound like their meaning. Using makes writing more dynamic and exciting. Rhyme is the repetition of similar sounds between words, especially at the ends of lines in poems, songs, or plays. It happens when identical or similar syllables repeat. For example, in the words star and far, the ending is the repeated sound that creates the rhyme. If you've sung or listened to nursery rhymes, then you've definitely heard examples of rhyme, such as Twinkle, Twinkle, Little Star, How Wonder What You Are. Rhyme brings rhythm and musicality to writing. It makes poems flow, songs stick in your head, and stories sound smooth. Our final two sound devices are less commonly known. Asinance is the repetition of vowel sounds in words that are close together in sentence. It's literary sound device often used in poetry, but you'll also find it in stories and song lyrics. Listen to this classic line. The rain in Spain stays mainly on the plane. Hear that long sound? That's asinance in action. By repeating vow sounds, writers create rhythm, mood, and even musicality in their words without needing perfect rhyme. So, next time you're reading poem or hearing lyrics that just flow, listen closely. Asinance might just be the secret. And finally, consonants. Consonants is the repetition of consonant sounds in quick succession. And those sounds can appear anywhere in the word. Listen to this well-known tongue twister. Peter Piper picked pe of pickled peppers. Hear all those repeating sounds. That's consonants. Or in the phrase curiosity killed the cat. The repeated sounds create subtle rhythm. Another example of consonants at work. Think of consonants as the partner to asinance. Consonants is created through the repetition of consonant sounds while asinance occurs when vowel sounds are repeated. And that's wrap on our video about sound devices.
