hi I'm Jimmy Chang and we're here to talk about what does diagonal mean in math now diagonal is used in Geometry where diagonal is line segment that links two vertices but the important thing to think about is that the vertices have to be non-adjacent in other words they can not next that cannot be next to each other and it happens in polygon so it's line segment linking two non-adjacent vertices of polygon so if you have rectangle for example you want to take into account that this you want to draw line segment from this ver vertex to this vertex now remember the vertices cannot be next to each other so this will qualify as diagonal is that the only one no of course not because if you have this diagonal drawn this also qualifies because this line to this line joins two non-adjacent vertices now there's formula associated with this and that is * - 3 / 2 where is the number of sides in polygon so to find out how many diagonals that can be drawn within polygon use this formula so I'm Jimmy Chang and that's what does diagonal mean in math
