my name is Beth have recently graduated from Newcastle University where studied language pathology while was at University had an 8-week peer placement within speech and language therapy in mental health impatient first was very apprehensive very nervous so I'd never never heard of what speech and language therapists do in mental health because it's quite new role even on that first day just coming in being on the wards meeting patients talking with staff it's such surprisingly warm environment and you feel lot of support both from members of speech therapy team but also the wider team it completely broke down those barriers and you're helping those patients on their road to recovery as well as helping other members of staff communicate with those patients so it all goes towards that holistic care for the patient which is really rewarding as student as well
