hey readers today we are going to learn how to identify character's traits in story do you know what trait is traits are words we can use to describe character's personality or how they are in story some words we can use to describe character are smart friendly picky lazy serious courageous strict nice loving could go on forever when we are reading story the author might tell us the character's traits but most of the time it is our job as readers to figure out character's traits from what the character does says thinks or looks like let's look at an example we are going to read small part of the story the little red riding hood love this story don't you let's get started little red riding hood loved to wear red i'm already thinking about little red riding hood's treats she seems happy because she's smiling and is kind of dancing in this picture let's keep reading one day her mother gave her basket of oranges and said little red riding hood please take these to grandma she's in bed with cold we can already tell that little red riding hood is caring because she's willing to deliver the oranges even though she has to go on long journey let's turn the page be careful in the woods and don't talk to strangers think would also say that little red riding hood is brave because she's going to go into the woods all by herself as little red riding hood set off to grandma's house other eyes were watching big bad wolf how do you think we should describe this wolf think we should say that the wolf is sneaky because he was hiding in the bushes watching little red riding hood we could also say that he is scary or mean because of the way he looks look at those teeth okay so from reading this story and looking at the pictures we inferred that little red riding hood is happy because she's smiling she's caring because she was willing to take the oranges to her sick grandmother and she's brave because she went into the forest all by herself on the other hand we thought that the wolf was sneaky because he was hiding in the bushes and he was maybe scary or mean because of the way that he looks and his big giant teeth think those are great character traits great job in this lesson we learned how to find out about character's traits by looking at what the characters do what they say what they think and what they look like we can do this for every story that we read you did great job today keep up the good work
