The Resurrection of Jesus Answers Bible Curriculum Lesson 167

hey guys brian here from answers in genesis here with my good friend tim jafe hey brian good to be with you hey good to see you yeah now tim does lot of great stuff for the ministry he's the content manager for the attractions he's speaker author does multiple presentations on key event we're talking about today which is the resurrection did jesus rise from the dead at the point of this attraction here in the museum and of course we're going to answer that particular question in powerful way and yes he did give you just little warning spoiler alert spoiler he did but tim does lot on the resurrection has whole book on that particular topic so wanted to defer to some of his expertise on this issue let him kind of guide you through the relevance of the resurrection why this is so important to our salvation to theology to the bible to our study of biblical history and then really kind of just focus on that for bit so i'll let tim kind of guide this and we'll kind of talk about as we go through tim all yours well brian thanks for doing this you know you've heard me give talk on this before one of the things am passionate about in fact call call it the passion syndrome is there's lot of times where christians will you know if you saw the movie the passion of the christ you get two hours of all the bloody gory details of the crucifixion and it's it's important for christians to understand what christ endured for us physically sure movie could capture all the emotional or spiritual you know torment that he endured but that movie did pretty good job with the physical then you get minute and 20 seconds of the resurrection at the end and lot of times that's what happens in our churches too for the churches that still talk about the cross praise god there's some that don't do that right but lot of times we forget the resurrection i've heard people share the gospel repeatedly where the resurrection's never been mentioned and yet when paul gives the gospel message in first corinthians 15 what does he say that you know that what he declared to them first of all was that christ died for our sins according to the scripture that he was buried and then he rose again the third day according to the scriptures that's the gospel message that's the content of the gospel and and how can we leave off the resurrection right when we're sharing the gospel can god still use our shortcomings of course thank goodness yeah praise god for that lot of times think we're just so focused on the the cross the atonement and we're so grateful for what christ did for us there that we kind of treat the resurrection like the cherry on the sunday and it's not that it's an integral yeah if without the resurrection the crucifixion is meaningless right because jesus said he was going to rise from the dead and kind of flesh it out for us because that's what we're going to video why is this so theologically significant it's not the cherry on top it is directly related to our atonement justification and our hope to flesh it out for us as we go through paul even says that in romans that he was raised for our justification that's right so think that's verse that lot of us leave out but one of the reasons it's really important is jesus predicted he would rise from the dead that's right he said that multiple times in john 2 destroyed this temple in three days i'll raise it up this whole earthly ministry he was kind of talking about that difference right in matthew 20 17 through 19 he tells him hey we're going to go up to jerusalem the son of man going to be betrayed he's going to be you know he gives them play-by-play of what's going to happen then he says the third day he'll rise again so repeatedly he's telling them i'm going to rise from the dead and if he doesn't it makes him false teacher and then he could not have been dying for our sins he would have been dying for his own sins so the resurrection is extremely important for that reason it's important because it gives us hope you know that death is not the end the one who said he has power over death proved it and said look i'll i'll be the one i'll go pay for your sins i'll die on the cross and then i'm going to rise from the dead and this is what will be your future as well if you believe in me amen so the resurrection is important for for those reasons for for many others in fact it impacts really every area of theology as you go through it without risen savior we have no hope without risen savior there is no church that was the that was the message that they gave wherever they went and challenge people all the time when you read through the new testament especially from the book of acts moving forward well actually you can do in the gospels because the number of times it's predicted but underline or highlight or circle the number of times it talks about jesus raised from the dead or risen from the dead or resurrected anything having to do with it and think you're going to be startled at how colorful your new testament becomes there's times where paul can't even seem to get out sentence without saying he talks about jesus whom god raised from the dead yeah it's like he has to throw it in their time and even though he's 12 times already in the letter he just wants to bring it up again how can we neglect that how can we forget it well if the bible makes such big deal out of it we should we should too right yeah absolutely and it is so key to our hope as you mentioned earlier that man that death is not the end right christ has already paved the way through his death burial and resurrection and we'll get new body similar to his in some mysterious awesome way we'll be with him forever and well and if you think about this what is he doing right now according to the book of hebrews he's our great high priest who is continually interceding for us if he didn't rise from the dead that's right he can't be doing that and so the resurrection is important for his present ministry on our behalf right now we wouldn't have an advocate that we can go to before the father if he didn't rise from the dead so really every single area of christian theology really does hinge on the resurrection so so many incredible reasons to praise god for the resurrection really the culmination of all of history right what the old testament has been pointing to what the new testament will be based on praise god for that and so many wonderful things related to the resurrection and tim that was awesome lots of great stuff covered there there's more covered in yeah well one of the things like to talk about want to make sure that people understand i'm not trying to diminish the crucifixion sure like said before praise god there's still churches that talk about that but the cursed fiction and the resurrection they're like two sides of the same coin yeah you really can't have one without the other or at least one without the other would be meaningless or unimportant at least but what like to say is that if you think about human history the thing that people have longed for the most you know if you really dig down and try to figure out what do people want they want to cheat death they want to live forever sure but the thing that we need the most more than anything else is to be forgiven by our holy creator because we've rebelled against him what do we have in the crucifixion of the resurrection we have the forgiveness from our creator and we have eternal life those two things that what we need the most and what we desire the most are offered by our savior through his death burial and resurrection and that is good news amen that's great way to end the video tim thanks for that we'll do couple more videos with
