foreign populations are distributed in different ways over territory depending on the characteristics of the species and their environment this dispersal is called the distribution of population there are three types of distribution namely the aggregated or clumped distribution the uniform distribution and the random distribution clumped distribution is the type of distribution that is observed most often individuals in the population are dispersed in groups where conditions are the most favorable for their survival for example cows congregate where the grass is abundant palm trees grow near body of water and even certain Birds such as starlings move in flocks to escape predators uniform distribution is type of distribution where individuals are evenly dispersed throughout the occupied territory it is observed when individuals in population compete for resources over limited territory for example Northern gannets arrange their nests so that every individual has minimum amount of space for their comfort whereas bamboos grow close to each other but keep sufficient space for sunlight and room for their roots finally random distribution is type of distribution that is observed when resources are the same everywhere throughout the occupied territory and when individuals have few social interactions with each other individuals therefore have no advantage in being in one place more than another they are randomly spread out over their territory this is the case of dandelions in field where their seeds have been randomly dispersed by the wind clumped distribution uniform distribution and random distribution are therefore the three possibilities for the individuals of population to spread out over territory foreign
