Om Sairam, vanakkam, welcome to Grandma's class. Let us see the exercises given on page number 47, 48 of the poem The Grumble Family from standard 10 Samacheer Kalvi. Question read the following lines from the poem and answer the questions given below. Number one, there is family nobody likes to meet. They live it is said on complaining street. Question one, where does the family live? The family lives at complaining street in the city of Never Are Satisfied. Second question, why do you think the street is named as complaining street? The street is named as complaining street because the people who live are always complaining and are never satisfied. Question two, they growl at that and they growl at this. Whatever comes, there is something amiss. What does the word growl mean here? The word growl means complaining with discontent. Why do they find everything amiss? As there is no contentment, each and everything seems to be not right. Third question, nothing goes right with the folks you meet down on that gloomy complaining street. What is the opinion about the folks you meet down the street? The folks that you meet down the street are always pessimist. Nothing is right for them. What does the word gloomy mean here? Gloomy I'm being word word again meaning gloomy depression or frightening. Question four, the worst thing is that if anyone stays among them too long, he will learn their ways. What is the worst thing that can happen if anyone stays with them? The worst thing that can happen if anyone stays with them is that they will also be influenced by the attitude of the people of complaining street. Next question, what are the ways of Grumble family? The Grumble family growls at anything and everything so much that they sometimes growl that they have nothing to grumble about. Question number five. They never stop growling at any weather conditions be it during monsoon or summer. Anyone who is associated with them even as an acquaintance gets adapted to their ways easily. They are morning, grumbling, and never satisfied. feeling of pessimism is strongly embedded in them and they are so contagious and they pass on the nature of grumbling and complaining to all who converse with them. Second paragraph question, if you were to live in the Complaining Street, how would you deal with the people who grumble? If were living in Complaining Street with the grumbling people, would be happy. would show them my attitudes towards life. would be cheerful and try to attract them towards me by my benign behavior. would teach them the goodness of life and its value. would inculcate good habits in them. would make them love others and be loved by others. would try my best to eliminate anxiety and hatred from their minds. would discourage them from being idle and keeping pessimistic attitudes in their hearts. would help them not to worry on silly and useless things. If they could bury their worries, they would cherish in their lives. My main idea would be to make them happy and lead very successful life. Happiness depends upon ourselves. From this poem, The Grumble Family, what kind of behavior does the poet want the readers to possess? Montgomery, from the poem The Grumble Family, wants the readers to possess optimistic behavior. The poet wants us to focus on the bright side of life and avoid the negativity around us. She wants us to learn to appreciate the beauty around us and avoid criticism. The poetess wants us to always try our best to be an optimist who sees the good and not the bad. Hence, she opines that it is wise to keep our feet from roaming into the complaining street and never growl at anything we do, even if we are mistaken to be complainer.
