has been teaching islamic studies for years she knows the way young muslims in germany think and she's had to struggle with the fact that five of her former students joined the terrorist organization islamic state and left germany to fight in syria in her book says young people who become radical jihadists have one big thing in common they feel like losers in germany they face huge disadvantages it's partly language problem these people are made to feel like outsiders because of their background or failure to integrate and there's social inequality reflected in education is calling on all germans to help prevent people from being ensnared by islamic states recruitment campaigns and she says the muslim community could help much more if it encouraged new interpretations of islam we have to make this religion more attractive and not just run it down we have to reach out to young people and speak their language that's what the salafists are doing that's what's made them so successful we should do the same says it's the only way to stop more young people from falling prey to islamic extremists
