so you want to learn about the basics of baseball good news you clicked on the Right video I'm going to teach you everything you need to know about how baseball Works in under 3 minutes baseball has played on diamond shaped field and each team has nine players on the field at time one team plays defense in the field while the other team is on offense at the bat the team on the field has individual players at each of the following positions pitcher catcher first base second base Third Base Short Stop left field center field and right field the team batting bats all nine of their players one at time each team getss nine times at bat also known as innings the rules are enforced by umpires which are basically baseball's version of referees the team on the field is led by their pitcher and the pitcher's job is to throw the ball into the batter Strike Zone the team batting tries to hit the pitch ball onto the field and score runs here's how scoring Works after the batter hits the ball they run to first base if they reach first base safely their next goal is to reach second base then third base and then home plate if they can round all the bases without being tagged they successfully score run it's kind of like Monopoly when you get around the entire board you're rewarded the batter can get on base three different ways the first way is called walk this is when pitcher throws four balls outside of the strike zone also known as balls before they throw three strikes inside the strike zone in this situation the batter is awarded first base the next is hit by pitch in this situation if the pitcher hits the batter like walk the batter gets awarded first base the third and most common way is called hit this is when batter hits the ball and then safely reaches first base before the Fielder tags them out this is similar to another play called an error which we'll explain in the next video the most exciting type of hit is called home run this is when the batter hits the ball over the Outfield fence in this situation they and every batter that is on base gets to tag home plate and score run the goal for the opposing team in the field is to tag batter out before they reach base safely each team gets three outs per Innings and there's few ways to get an out the first is strikeout this is when the pitcher throws three strikes to the batter the second is fly out and this is when the batter hits the ball in the air and the Fielder catches it before it hits the ground the final is ground out if the ball hits the ground before the Fielder gets to it they can still pick the ball up throw it to first base and if they tag first base before the runner gets there the runner is out once team gets three outs the other team has chance to bat as mentioned standard baseball game has nine innings each inning is divided into two halves the top half were the visiting team bats and the bottom half were the home team bats the team with the most runs after nine innings wins the game if the score is tied though Extra Innings are played congratulations you now have the basics of baseball down and as promised check out our next video that explains what an air is
