Humans have 206 bones in their body. The average cat has 244 bones in its body. And snakes, the most bony animals, have around 1,800. Can you guess how many bones lobster has? lobster belongs to the phylum Arthropoda and the subphylum Crustacea. Arthropods are the most abundant categories of animals on Earth. It is estimated that between 75 to 85% of all animals on Earth belong to this category. Examples of Crustacea, which is subphylum of Arthropoda, include lobsters, crabs, shrimp, and krill. So, what are the traits of crustaceans? First, crustaceans are arthropods. All arthropods have several traits in common. Let's take look at these. First, an exoskeleton. Remember the question from the beginning? The answer to how many bones does lobster have? It's none. Arthropods do not protect their organs with skeleton made of bones. Instead, they have hard outer covering called an exoskeleton. Arthropods have bilateral symmetry. This means that if you draw line down the middle of their bodies, both sides will be identical to one another. Humans also have bilateral symmetry. Bodies with regions. Most crustaceans live in water, but some live on land. In addition to the traits that all arthropods have, Crustacea also have head that has two compound eyes, two pairs of antennae, three pairs of mouthparts, and on the abdominal, they have swimmerets, which are called swimming legs.
