all right what is coefficient so so far we've been talking about terms variables constants right so you know here's that's what we call variable when number is not being multiplied by variable we call it constant so we have variable and constant they're both terms but then what happens when we have term that's like 3x right well that's not it has variable part of it and it has constant part of it but there's another special part of when we combine number and variable together we also now develop what the coefficient is so the coefficient is going to be your numeric factor of that term which is going to be you're pretty much the number in your terms so that's going to be 3x so let's say let's just write out something let's say negative 7xy plus 3z squared plus 8. all right so if want to say what are all of my coefficients right and lot of times your teacher i'll say hey you know take your coefficient or here's the coefficient of this value so let's look at all the coefficients well 8 is constant so it doesn't have variable with it so it's not going to have coefficient so my only two terms that can have coefficients are these two terms and remember your coefficient is your you and your degenera it is your numeric term in your numeric factor of your term so let's look at what is the number that is going to be my factor well my two variable factors are and so the number is negative seven here my variable factor is squared the number factor is three because remember factors are your numbers that multiply to give you your your term well the two terms that my two factors are 3 and squared the number factor is 3 so that is my coefficient as is 7 is my coefficient for this term so that is brief little description of what the coefficient is hope it helps
