Assalamu alaykum. Today we will learn the proper manners of eating and drinking. beautiful part of our Islamic character. Food and drink are great gifts from Allah. We must treat them with respect and gratitude. Wash your hands properly before eating to stay healthy and clean. Come to the table in clean clothes. Sit straight and politely at the table. If you're not eating, keep your hands on your lap or gently on the table. Before eating or drinking, say bismillah. This brings blessings to your meal. After finishing your food or drink, say alhamdulillah, we thank Allah for what he gave us. Dick up small bite of food with your right hand. The prophet peace be upon him taught us to eat with the right hand. Chew your food well and swallow slowly. Do not rush. If you are sharing plate, take food from your side of the plate. If different types of food are served, it is okay to move your hand around, especially with fruits and sweets. Use three fingers when eating food that can be picked up easily. Do not blow on your food or drink and do not breathe into the cup. Take the cup away from your mouth, breathe, then bring it back to drink again. It is allowed to drink standing, but sitting down is much better and more polite. Bring the food to your mouth. Do not bend down toward the plate. Keep the hand you're not using politely on your lap or on the table. The prophet peace be upon him said, "Let no one eat or drink with the left hand, for Satan eats with his left and drinks with his left. Do not make noise with your mouth or your plate. Eat quietly. Talking with your mouth full is bad manners. Wait until you have swallowed your food. Once food enters your mouth, do not take it out again. If it's too hot, take sip of water to cool it. If you don't like the food, swallow it quietly. Do not spit it out unless it is spoiled. Do not stretch yourself during meals unless you really need to. Try not to blow your nose at the table. If necessary, turn away and do it quietly. When you finish your meal, say the dua, meaning all praise is for Allah who gave us food and drink and made us Muslims. Eating and drinking with good manners brings blessings, shows respect, and follows the Sunna. Muslim's character shines through his manners.
