my job as an educator our job as teachers and language arts is to teach them strategies how to read how to become better critical reader and tell my kids this year they've already learned how to read now we're reading to learn analyzing going behind the lines inferring critically pulling apart that text and think guided reading allows you to do that and then they are allowed to go back independent practice after I've given them guided practice to practice that strategy come back share and at that time can you know critique what they're saying help them understand clear up any misconceptions and push them along give them some enrichment praise think guided reading has really made reading more exciting for the kids they know their levels they know they're independent levels think it took away the frustration level for these kids they would pick before they would pick books that were sometimes not appropriate for them in their frustration level and it turned them off of reading think that guided reading really made the students enjoy reading think it gives them the time to have the sustained period of reading to pick books and read books for the love of reading just for the love of reading that independent reading piece and the guided reading piece at their own level they can grill at their own level and then we do the skills at their level it's just wonderful program that hits every area of reading guided reading follows that research that shows that the volume of reading that children do at their level with explicit teaching instruction is the way that you're going to have success have reader who was very very low at the beginning of this year and very very dependent at the beginning of the year she was struggling with everything and the big thing she was struggling with was independence because if you can't read then you feel like you can't do anything so today she read ninety-eight words per minute which is huge success for her and we're closer to getting independence so guided reading definitely helps with that you
