The First Pillar: The Miqāt Dear pilgrim, If you arrive at the Miqāt or pass alongside it, then perform ghusl, clean yourself, and apply fragrance to your body. Then put on the garments of Ihrām. which are the izār (lower cloth) and the ridā’ (upper cloth). And woman may wear any modest, covering clothing she wishes. without adornment or ostentation. It is recommended that the state of Ihrām be initiated after mandatory prayer. if it happens to be the time of an obligatory prayer. And if it is not the time of an obligatory prayer, you may pray two units of voluntary prayer. intending them as the Sunnah of ablution. Then make the intention to enter into the ritual (nusuk) that you wish to perform. If you intend to perform Ifrād, then say: “Labbayka ḥajjan.” (Here am, Allah, for Ḥajj.) And if you intend to perform Qirān, then say: “Labbayka ḥajjan wa ‘umrah.” And if you intend to perform Tamattu‘, then say: “Labbayka ‘umrah.” Then begin reciting the Talbiyah, saying: “Labbayka Allāhumma labbayk…” “Labbayka lā sharīka laka labbayk.” “Indeed, all praise, blessings, and sovereignty belong to You.” “Inna al-ḥamda wa n-ni‘mata laka wa-l-mulk.” “Lā sharīka lak.” And repeat it often until you reach Makkah. and begin the ṭawāf. And remember that by entering into the state of nusuk, certain actions become prohibited for you. until you exit your state of Ihrām. These actions include: the prohibitions of Ihrām. Do not wear stitched clothing, which refers to any garment tailored to fit the body or any part of it. And do not cover your head with anything that directly touches it. And do not remove anything from the hair of your head or body. And do not apply any perfume. And do not clip your nails. And do not hunt or kill any land game. And do not assist in killing it. It is also prohibited for the pilgrim in Ihrām to conduct or enter into marriage contract. and to have marital intercourse. or to engage in any intimate touching driven by desire. And woman in Ihrām must not wear the niqāb (face veil). nor may she wear gloves. Arrival in Makkah When you arrive at al-Masjid al-Ḥarām, enter with your right foot first, saying: “In the name of Allah.” “Peace and blessings be upon the Messenger of Allah.” “O Allah, forgive my sins.” “and open for me the gates of Your mercy.” Enter with humility, reverence, and awe for Allah, the Almighty. mindful of Allah’s great blessing upon you. for granting you the ease to reach His Sacred House. Ṭawāf (Circumambulation) Then proceed toward the Kaaba. And before you begin the ṭawāf, stop reciting the Talbiyah. Then place the middle of your upper garment (ridā’) under your right armpit, with its two ends placed over your left shoulder. This is called al-iḍṭibāʿ. and it is specific to this type of ṭawāf. Then head toward the Black Stone. to begin your ṭawāf from there. If you are able to kiss it without causing harm or crowding others, then do so. Otherwise, touch it with your hand, And if you are unable to touch it, then point toward it from afar with your right hand, saying: “Allāhu akbar.” And keep the Kaaba on your left. and remain engaged in the remembrance of Allah. in supplication and seeking forgiveness. Walk briskly With shortened, brisk steps In the first three circuits And this is what is called Ramal And walk normally in the remaining circuits When you reach the Yemeni Corner Which is the corner that comes before the Black Stone Touch it without kissing it, if that is possible And if it is not possible then do not point to it from afar It is recommended that you say between the Yemeni Corner and the Black Stone “Our Lord, give us in this world goodness” “And in the Hereafter goodness” “And protect us from the punishment of the Fire” Circumambulate the Kaaba for seven circuits Beginning at the Black Stone and ending at it Saying “Allāhu Akbar” each time you align with it Doing in each circuit what has been mentioned before And after you finish the circumambulation Put your garment back over your shoulders Then proceed to the Station of Abraham And recite the words of Allah, the Exalted And pray two light rak‘ahs behind the Station, if that is possible Otherwise, in any place within the mosque And do not crowd the people performing ṭawāf It is recommended that you recite in the first rak‘ah, after Al-Fātiḥah And in the second Sa‘i (the ritual walking between Safa and Marwah) Then proceed to the Sa‘i area When you approach As-Safa Recite the words of Allah, the Exalted And say “I begin with what Allah began with” Then ascend As-Safa And face the Kaaba And praise Allah And say “Allāhu Akbar” three times Raising your hands in the manner of one supplicating And say “There is no god but Allah alone, without partner” “To Him belongs the dominion, and to Him belongs all praise” And He is over all things All-Powerful There is no deity except Allah, alone He fulfilled His promise and granted victory to His servant and defeated the confederates by Himself repeat that three times and supplicate between them with whatever is easy for you then descend and head towards al-Marwah and strive in remembrance supplication and praising Allah when you reach the first green marker then increase your pace in walking and run vigorously as much as you are able without harming anyone until you reach the second marker then walk at normal pace until you reach al Marwah when you reach al Marwah do on it as you did on as Safa thus you have completed one of the seven rounds of Sa'i then descend returning to as Safa walking in the area of his walking hastening in the area of hastening and so on until you complete seven rounds beginning at as Safa ending at al Marwah shaving or shortening the hair when you have completed your Sa'i if you are performing Tamattu then shave your head or shorten it so that you exit from your state of Ihram and with that you have completed your Umrah and what was forbidden to you of the prohibitions of Ihram is now permissible for you and you must remain in Makkah until you enter Ihram for Hajj from your place on the eighth day of Dhul Hijjah and if you are performing Qiran or Ifrad then remain in your state of Ihram until that day the Day of Tarwiyah when the Day of Tarwiyah arrives which is the eighth day of Dhul Hijjah enter Ihram for Hajj from the place where you are then proceed to Mina pray Dhuhr and Asr there and Maghrib Isha and Fajr at their times shortened without combining and increase in Talbiyah and the remembrance of Allah the Exalted standing at Arafah when the sun rises on the ninth day of Dhul Hijjah proceed to Arafat pray Dhuhr and Asr there combined at the earlier time shortened with one adhan and two iqamahs and make sure you have entered the boundaries of Arafat and remain there until the sun sets and strive in remembrance supplication and humble entreaty facing the Qiblah raising your hands following the example of the Chosen One peace and blessings be upon him departure to Muzdalifah when the sun has set proceed to Muzdalifah with calmness and dignity and increase in Talbiyah and do not harm your fellow Muslims upon your arrival at Muzdalifah pray Maghrib and Isha there combined and shortened spend that night there until you pray Fajr and increase in supplication, saying La ilaha illallah, and Takbir after Fajr prayer facing the Qiblah raising your hands until near sunrise stoning the Jamrah al-Aqabah Before the sun rises Walk to Mina Raising your voice with the talbiyah When you reach the Great Jamrah of Aqabah Which is the one close to Makkah Stop saying the talbiyah there Throw at it with seven consecutive pebbles Raising your hand with each pebble, saying: Allahu Akbar First tahallul (partial release from Ihram) After the stoning (of the Jamrah) Slaughter your sacrificial animal if it is required of you Then shave your head or shorten your hair And shaving is better And woman shortens from each braid the length of fingertip And with that, you will have completed the first tahallul (partial release from Ihram) And all the prohibitions of Ihram become permissible for you. Except women. Tawaf al-Ifadah Then bathe, clean yourself, apply perfume, and go down to Makkah to perform Tawaf al-Ifadah. And after it, perform the Sa‘i of Hajj if you are doing Tamattu‘. And likewise if you are performing Qirān or Ifrād. And you did not perform Sa‘i with Tawaf al-Qudum. But if you have already performed Sa‘i with Tawaf al-Qudum Then do not repeat the Sa‘i again. And with this, you will have completed the major tahallul (full release from Ihram). And you may delay Tawaf al-Ifadah. Until after the Days of Mina. When you go down to Makkah Staying overnight in Mina After Tawaf al-Ifadah Return to Mina and spend the nights of the 11th and 12th there. If you wish to hasten If you delay And the sun of the 12th day sets on you Then you must stay there the night of the 13th as well Staying overnight on these nights is one of the obligations of Hajj It is not permissible to abandon it or be negligent about it without valid excuse Stoning the Jamrah And on each of these days, you must… …that you stay in Mina. To stone the three Jamrahs You begin with the small Jamrah Which is the farthest of them from Makkah Then the middle one Then Jamrat al-‘Aqabah You throw at each one with seven consecutive pebbles Saying “Allahu Akbar” with each pebble And it is Sunnah for you to stand and make du‘a After finishing the first and second Jamrahs Facing the Qiblah Raising your hands And do not stand after the third one Farewell Tawaf When you return to Makkah And you want to travel back to your country Do not leave it until you perform the Farewell Tawaf around the Ka‘bah, seven circuits. So that your final act with the House is this tawaf. concession is given to the woman in menstruation and the woman in postpartum bleeding To leave this tawaf. And with that, the rites of Hajj are completed. We ask Allah to make your Hajj accepted (mabroor) And your Sa‘i appreciated. And your sin forgiven.
