How I Read 100 Books In A Year as a slow reader

this video is sponsored by my favorite website Creator Squarespace the best place to go when you want to get domain or create gorgeous website or an online store okay me I'm slow reader and mean slow when read fiction there's like barely any sentence that won't like stop and read again sometimes even three or four times sometimes it takes me like 2 hours to read even 20 pages and I'm not even exaggerating still usually along somewhere between 75 and books per year not because have like goal to read that much but simply because hey enjoy reading and have started to kind of track my reading each week to better see like what my reading behavior is so let's take look at it how read so much in year mean reading that much in year as super slow reader of course it takes time like that's obvious and my weeks are really quite intense have very little time off so so while back just decided that you know what I'm just like much happier and more content and calmer person when read so will just have to make the time my weekly reading hours are dead serious priority in master headquarters try getting like 2 hours between 6:00 and 800 every evening which to me like honestly the success rate is little bit so so because work often spills into these hours and usually have like couple of work events or social things in the evenings every week but hey try that being said have much more sacred reading moment that protect fiercely and that is like weekly unscheduled day yes do try to have one day every week usually Sundays where I'm not allowed to plan single thing not even phone call or walk in the park or even like going to the food shop just like one day without single Demand on me and those days my reading is just like so good good I'm not sure if this sounds bit intense but can no problem sit for like 8 to 10 hours straight like just reading on those days without getting bored or restless and like when David tells me you know hey Jenny's dinner time come up with like this like days expression like you know back in the real world kind of like sad that have to put the book down and one of the biggest reasons where can just like keep on reading for days without getting tired of it listen I'm huge supporter of reading many books simultaneously usually will have anything from like three to maybe seven books going at once three are usually like the main books that rotate and then have few like that will you know read bit here and there like maybe short story collection or like book of essays that kind of thing so always think of it this way wouldn't want to be like forced to finish all episodes of one TV series before allowing myself to start new show sometimes I'm in the moon for drama sometimes docent mentary sometimes baking show you know what mean and there is such like huge difference between reading something like vinaia wolf and something like more contemporary and light-hearted so when sit down to like reading session will usually start with the most difficult book like right now I'm about to start Katherine Mansfield which haven't read before have you how is she and then after finish bit of that I'll go onto something more like contemporary but kind of demanding like right now I'm reading one of seret Nuna like earlier books who was just like one of my favorite authors ever would never stopped beating my drum for her on here and then when my brain gets little bit tired I'll pick up something contemporary where the author has sort of put lot of effort into the flow and by that mean like an author who like listens to the melody and the rhythm of their Pros in way that makes it like super smooth for the reader to just like swim along and with those books can usually like up my pace quite lot because don't reread the same sentences as many times for example just reread sayaka morata's convenience the woman and man that book reads itself the pages just like turn on their own have lot of love for authors who do this like who listen to the the flow and like allow the reader to like get completely immersed and like not work so hard mean love big sister Virginia wolf as well with passion but she sure makes you work as reader which is also fantastic type of reading experience when you're like kind of interacting with book in another way but after long day of working very hard with my little tired brain don't often have the like neurons left for it so that's more like of Sunday Morning Fresh and bright type of reading so rotating multiple books at once yes that's how can read for like hours and hours and hours without getting restless I'm going to contradict myself here now because of course if you're reading my sexy little novel definitely recommend you to put everything else aside honestly like nothing more than hearing from you guys when you tell me that you've read it in like one sitting or like over one delicious weekend there's quite few of you who read it by now isn't it and joking aside I'm like Beyond grateful for your support can't even say how happy it makes me to hear that you're like connecting and relating to my main character Luke and just like it's still so surreal to me so huge huge thank you and if you haven't read it yet mean what have you been doing with your life leave link to worldwide free shipping in the description for you and you know happy reading do tell me what you think of it but let's talk about another lovely and delightful point the wonderful Act of dnfing for those of you who don't hang out on book St or book talk to dnf book means to like Mark it as did not finish when you log it basically to admit defeat to say like enough is enough I'm I'm putting this book down know lot of people have trouble because they feel like almost like duty to finish book when you've started it have no such problems listen read somewhere that to read all the books that exist in the world before you die you have to read like 2 million books per year have no idea if this is true but it doesn't really matter because think we can all agree that there are way too many books for person to read so have solemnly pledged that am never again wasting single minute on book that just doesn't do it for me sometimes don't even like make it past 10 pages before I'm like you know what thank you next and it usually has nothing to do with the book being badly written or anything like that it's just like not for me personally when you read as much as do it becomes very clear what your taste is and think know so well why come to reading like what exactly it is that I'm looking for with my reading and it's more or less two things gorgeous sentences and extremely intelligent observations and you know philosophizing care very little about plot or characters or themes or concept is just not why read and no matter how much everyone else loves book and Raves about it on Instagram can usually tell if it will be for me or not and if pick up book that think will be for me and it isn't I'm just like promptly putting it down again like no hard feelings last year as an example dnfed 13 books so that's why like reading samples are just so good you know like reading the first few pages online before buying book to not like spend money and then be disappointed already within the first chapter so knowing my own taste and learning what it is that brings me to reading in the first place also has to do with like reading goals mentioned that don't have any like the number of books read is like of no consequence to me reading is like the one thing on Earth that that relaxes me the most is like my own personal mode of meditation so the last thing want to do is like put any type of pressure on it especially like as ridiculously slow reader never want to feel like have to speed up to finish book quicker that would like kill the whole reason why come to reading anyway to like slowly Savor and reread delicious sentences rather read like 10 books well in year than 100 with like sense of haste another thing both because I'm like part of the book communities on Insta and Tik Tok but also even more importantly because I'm an author hear lot about like the newest hottest thing you know those books that like all of sudden everyone seems to be talking about and Publishers do send me lot of free books like wanting me both to like post about them on my channels but also to like give quote as an author for them to like put on the cover or online but again hundreds of thousands some new books get published every year can't read them all so I'm staying away from Trends completely and only reading the new books that truly believe that would love think if would have like the stress of reading goal every year or if would feel like had to read trending books to like stay assure then it would just kill lot of the pleasure of reading for me and make me like less likely to sit down and open book in the first place so I'm staying true to me my taste my preferences even though don't have goal do love logging books like it's one of the greatest Pleasures in life logging your pastimes don't you think mean David is religious just religious with his letterbox film list and I'm also an avid logger like what about you do you log your reading or film watching and which apps do you use like good reads story graph or letter boook or something else personally both keep keep track of the books that want to read but also of course the books that have read with an intricate point system for rating them do this in Google Docs because personally am not like big fan of Goodreads however have been convinced to give story graph go so this year will log on there to see if like it better but my favorite part of logging isn't online at all it's the weekly logging do in my beautiful little notebook mean look at it how sweet isn't it so every page in this notebook is like one week weeks reading so which book and like how many pages every day and how many books that finished on bad reading week where there's been like too much else going on and I've barely had any time to sit down usually log under 200 pages on normal week would say it's like 3 to 400 pages and on good week you know if you're on holiday or if you had like full weekend without any plans can log about 500 to maybe 650 pages but that's like me like full week on Swedish lake or somewhere like doing nothing but louing and reading and drinking iced coffee and champagne for week type of reading so mentioned earlier that it sometime takes me like 2 hours to read just 20 Pages like this has happened to me quite lot this year that sit down at 6:00 to read until 8:00 p.m. and it just doesn't work like reread the same passages over and over because my mind is still raising after full day of extremely hectic work so like find myself picking up my phone and just like staring into space and like not being able to relax enough to focus on the words on the page do you recognize this where you're supposed to be reading but you spend more time on your phone or like whatever than on the actual page whenever get like this David is always the one to pull me out of it he's like Jenny pull yourself out of it light scented candle put on the calmest classical music and above all he reminds me to airplay my phone and put it away like way over there and that's it like that's what usually need to like read myself into the book and 30 minutes of that I'm like usually back to my normal reading Focus like meditation type mode it doesn't work every single time but definitely more often than not like play my phone what about you do you often have trouble getting into reading because your mind's like too Frau and hectic and you can't stop picking at your phone it's the worst isn't it do you also mute your phone when this happens or how do you like get back into reading mode so what think this has taught us is that for me reading is like more than hobby sorry to be all like sentimental here but can just be radical and say that for me reading is one of my main sources of happiness and don't even know why it just like it just does it for me feel closer to humanity feel that my brain is growing and my own worldview is Shifting for all of us who are like highly driven by curiosity think reading is the easiest way to tap into the rest of the world you you know like that's saying that reading is way to live thousand lives isn't it true like so of course I'm going to read because the truth is love it like without it my life would feel poor that's how feel like it gives depth and Beauty to my life no matter if you're into books or films or music or food or any other kind of art do hope that you feel the same way that you found that one thing that makes you happy the way that feel when crack open the spine and like breathe in the smell of brand new book no better feeling than page one chapter one here we go call me soap all you want because yes
