Welcome to Mo Math and Science. In this video, I'd like to talk about metric mass. Mass is how much matter is in an object. Many people think mass and weight are the same. An object's weight is how strong the gravitational force is pulling down on it. Many people think that the weight is the same everywhere because we all live on planet Earth. However, an object's mass doesn't change unless you remove some of it. But the weight can change according to the gravitational pull. For example, your weight is less on the moon. Grams, kilograms, and tons are the three most common measurements of mass in the metric system. The SI unit for mass, the base unit, is the kilogram. gram, which is written with small weighs about the same as paper clip. 1 lb is equal to 453.5 Think of loaf of bread. It's about 700 When you have 1,000 this is equal to kilogram. 1 kg equals 2.2 lb. Think of the textbook in your book bag. And finally, when you get 1,000 kg, that equals ton, which is also called metric ton. 1 ton is equal to 2,204 lb. The average car has mass mass of around 2 tons. So, there we go.
