in few days. All right, NASA needs our help. Do you think you're up for the challenge? think y'all are, too. All right, so we have already reviewed the phases of the moon. Okay, that was this worksheet right here. who can tell me what this one is? Yes, Teague. Half moon. Yes, half moon or first quarter? What about this one's little more challenging? Do we know? can't see. It's too far. what are you supposed to guess? Waxing. Waxing. No, it's waning. Here, let me bring you this one. Might be little easier. know. sent home your other work. Okay. So, we're going to put on Laura's desk. So, we have our last quarter and our first quarter, and they're the exact opposite of each other, right? Yes. Okay. And then we have waning crescent and waning what's the other one? Gibbus. Gibbus. Good. New moon and full moon. Yep. And then waxing waxing gibaxing. Yep. All right. Good. And then what what is this guy? Does he look like me? He's an astronaut. Yeah. And then we have lunar rover. lunar rover is vehicle that they use to get around on the moon. know. That's pretty cool. Jump. They could jump because the gravity is what? More like less like less gravity. So, they can move around and they can jump. And then we have telescope. That's what we would use here on Earth, right? Yep. So that we can see the moon. have question. Yes, ma'am. Can you see if you look in the telescope and there's people walking on the moon at the very second? Can you see the people walking on the moon? You know, think you'd have to have really high powered expensive one. I'm not sure. This is super far away, whether it's something that we can look up later. But it's the closest thing to the Earth. It is the closest thing to the Earth. You're correct. The sun and the Earth. Yep. All right. So, we're going to go to our next slide. Okay. So, we have Earth's view of the moon, which would be what? Which which phase of the moon would this be? Full moon. Full moon. And it's full because it's what's the light doing? Shining. It's shining fully on it. Right. And then this is the moon surface. So what do we remember about the moon surface? Craters. There's over 100. Over two. There's lot of craters. Over 2,000. There's lot. And what what's the ground made out of? Sand. Sand and moon dust and rocks. Yeah. All right. So, I'm going to sit for second. All right. So, NASA needs our help. Okay. And as I'm sure you have guessed by my astronaut suit, that is definitely not like know am not sp Yeah, could maybe could get on land rover. You think could? Or lunar rover. Not land rover. All right. So, they want to go to the moon, but they need our help. So, we already talked about the phases. We already talked about what we would need if we were to live on the moon. And that was shelter. Yes. Food, water, air. And solar panels for power, and shelter. Perfect. All right. So, how are we going to get to the moon? Okay. Probably in rocket ship. So, would it make sense for us to drive there? No. No. Do you think there's road that goes to the moon? No, this is not Super Mario Kart. We do not have rainbow bridge. Will we run to the moon? No. No, that would take forever. Yeah. Also, gravity holds us down to the ground. So, don't know how we would do that. Okay. What about mountain climbing? No, there's no mountains. There's no mountains that reach all the way to the moon, right? Okay. Would we dive deep in the ocean? No. No. We would blast off in rocket. rocket. Okay, knew y'all knew that, but wanted to make sure. Even if you run, you can't because you need space unless you can't breathe, right? Because there's no oxygen in space. And you're just going to keep sinking and never get there. Yeah. It would just be mess, right? Yeah. All right. So, it wouldn't make sense to do any of the things that we do on Earth to get to the moon because the moon is not on Earth. So, we have to take rocket ship to get to the moon. Okay, let's see. it done skipped my video. Let's go back. Those are parts of rocket. But wanted you to hear this the internet's been crazy today. Has it been slow in your classroom today? No. No. Loading up there. It is. It has been taking little bit of time to get want to switch my challenge. Okay, we'll do that in minute. Okay, so this remember we talked about the Artemis crew that just came back from lunar trip. That's the crew. That's the crew. So there's this is short news clip. They did an interview after they got back to Earth and wanted to show you what they had to say, okay? so that we could prepare our rockets to be successful like their rocket. Okay, that was the AC kicking on think their orange suits are cooler than this pink one. The crew described how it felt coming home, breaking through Earth's atmosphere, the capsule's heat, protecting them from 5,000 degree temperatures. We were all holding up. We heard about the heat shield. And so this moment is coming. And the very first thing thought was, is it supposed to be that big? There was lot of fire out there. very distinct red and bigger blue. was hyper sensitive to everything, every noise, every sensation. That hatch opens up. What was that like? It was visceral. was completely overcome and just screamed. was so happy and just visceral emotional reaction to not only being home but people there coming to us and bringing us out. Their trip to taking the full expanse of the moon's far side sharing spectacular snapshots of the moon that's our home like this one just peeking over the crater face of the lunar surface. To me, the most profound moment seeing the moon wasn't necessarily when we were on the full far side. When we're so close, that the whole thing was just incredible, in your face, just dramatic. It was the first real evidence that we were somewhere completely different than where we had started. It wasn't just our own. It was its own. And we were seeing it in new way. The crew see in there. You guys seem pretty comfortable. climb an oval, fall over each other, you know, especially for you, Jeremy. You're the biggest one of the group. Yeah. Like ladder for help around. Not really effective and efficient at it, you know, just announcing where we were heading. You know, I'm going to be down here by your your feet. don't need you to move or can you move poant name for Commander Reed Weissman's late life. She was amazing. She's the mother of my two daughters and like what what man on this planet deserves gift like that to have your crew be so thoughtful and to do something so caring. The crew bringing back lessons learned for the next trip. We really wanted this to be about humanity going on this journey with us and that idea about togetherness. It's just amazing that people resonated with that. historic moon mission now complete. Al Rer NBC News Houston. An incredible trip. All right. Do we have any questions about their interview? The moon. How did they get to the moon? the moon is gigantic. Did they walk on it actually or did they just fly right? They just flew around it this time. So, the goal for them is to be able to put space station on the moon. But this trip that they just took was supposed to be helpful in getting them to see what was on the far side of the moon or the dark side. See how long it would take. See exactly how much how many supplies they would need, the quantities and all of that. Yes. Are they going to go and walk on it or they are, but it's going to take little bit. They have already started as of yesterday, believe. saw the news article. They have already started building the next one. So, Artemis 3 is in progress. Yep. So, every time they use rocket ship, they lose big portion of it. So, you have all of this right here, right? The whole thing is called the structural system. Okay? But then you have your nose cone, your payload system, and your guidance system. This is really the only part that the astronauts can be in. It is very small area considering how big the rocket is when they take off. Okay. Then you have the fuel because they need lot of fuel to make it to and from, right? You have the frame, the oxidizer, the pumps to make everything work. nozzles and then the fins help them navigate. Okay, so all of this helps it get into the air and then they need that fuel to come back. So they do have guidance system inside here and it's kind of like like car. You have hand or an airplane actually. They have their controls inside. They have big panels and all of that. Here in minute can pull up picture of it when we're cutting and gluing. Okay. So, real quick before we review our rocket, we're going to make cute little rocket ourselves. Okay. So, we're going to have googly eyes and we're going to make this rocket and then our next rocket is going to be for our competition. Okay. competition. We're going to have competition. Okay. So, Miss G's looks like this. Okay. Yes. Tet. Yes. Who's gonna make it the furthest? Do you see the blue lines? We're going to try and make straw rocket. Okay. And you're going to blow into the straw and see how far it can go. All right. Did they just get high five? Pretty much. Okay. Yeah. All right. So, if you want to get up, you can come over here, pick any combination. You're going to need one of each. Okay. Any combination of colors. And then you can go to your desk and cut it out. Is this purple or white? It's purple. Okay. And then whenever we're done putting it together, we're going to pick out some little googly eyes real quick. I'm going to move this desk. You need some googly eyes. But we're going to pick out or we're going to cut out and then tape it together. Okay. I'm just doing one bit. That's fine. However you want to do it. So, I'm going to put the the tape here and then you'll come around and you can pick googly eyes as big or as little as you want. Some of them have eyelashes like mine do have eyelashes. Yep. See? know. She looks so so so tiny and cute. The right amount of stuff. Yes, sir. You sure did. Okay. So, here's mine as an example. my little thing got bent. My fin. Okay. And you're going to glue it or tape it on the back. Okay. Right here. Do we put all of our trash on this table? Yes. Yes. Cuz think since this is extra room, don't know if we have trash can. have crayons over here. You can color your cheeks whatever color you have marker. no do not have marker. Not in here. We were originally going to do it in the classroom, but things didn't work out that way. In what classroom? In the achieve room. there are too many kids in there. There's too many kids in there. Yeah. Can you see the pink? Well, can see the pink. It looks better than my pink on here. That's pink. Yeah, but because it's on that dark green, it doesn't look very pink, does it? Like Mhm. Okay. All right. am going Nope. We're going to use tape. You're going to tape it on the back. I'm going to set like five minute timer so everything can get cut out and then tape together for us to do for us to move on to the next one. Yeah. You're okay. We can finish it at the end. You're fine. Okay. Yes. That is the nose cone. no. What if we miss birthday? You're not going to miss Malachi's birthday. promise. Since there's just three of y'all, it's going to go lot faster. He is mom. Had donuts this morning for last but he wasn't feeling good and he bought me. What? Yes. Did you want the lime green or dark green? You can cut out the lime green. That's fine. got plenty. made extras of all of it just in case. Does anybody else come in here with me? Not this time. have had other groups that I've pulled for this, but not for this. this class right here. Yes. So have had other classes with for my college where have pulled different groups for other videos but y'all are the group that have pulled for science. Why did not everybody get the note to be in this? because we because they some of our people in like well so some of the kids need to be in class for RTI and stuff and then some kids do not have permission to be on film and some kids do and then also got to pick small group of kiddos. You guys that like to listen and know who who would be interactive and excited. figured y'all would kind of like the the moon stuff and y'all have more sciency math trained brains. So, thought this might intrigue you just little bit. So that is why could have picked my group from last time, but wanted new group. So why? Cuz they weren't good. No, they were good. just want as much practice with as many different types of kids as can. That's why with every class that I've done, this makes perfect. Yep. Practice makes perfect. Every class that have done, picked different grade level, different classroom, different group of kids. have question. Yes, ma'am. How am supposed to glue these things? Yeah, just tape it over it. Yeah, you have to color them. We don't have to color them. They're You can if you want. You can add designs if you have time. Good. You have eyes? Yeah. Yep. As big or as small as you want. What the one do you like? have like kind of medium size with lashes. So, the lashes are here. You draw those? did not draw them. They we bought them like that. So, these are big ones with lashes. Same thing on the eyeball. Nope. It sure does. What happened? Do you hot glue these ones? Nope. So, there's little piece of paper on the back to help make it stick. So, if you give me one, I'll show you how to do it. know how to do. It's kind of like sticker. You're gonna peel it off. know how to do that. It takes second. Yeah. Up top the top like right here. notic. There's one. Did you get it? There you go. That's okay. trimmed my nails the other day, too. So, makes it little bit harder to get them off. My friends are all coming to my house. They're all coming to your house tonight. Why? there's your other eye. First eye. You're okay. We have time. You have plenty of time. It's okay. It's all good. When we're done, can see? Yeah, you sure can. You need tape, Teague? Not yet. Okay, let's see. We have one, two, three, four, five. Where do write my name? On the back. Yep. you're copying mine. Okay. So, will get you some tape and I'll put it right here. Blast us. Blast us. All right. Did you want to add designs while we wait? Yeah. Can Yeah. Can finish? Everybody can finish. That's okay. was hoping five would be enough, but if it wasn't, that's okay, too. We've got little bit of room for buffer. Okay. One, two, four, five. Five pieces of tape. used more than five on these. yeah. That's okay. Three. Since mine were so wobbly. That's okay. It responding. Hey, you know what that's called? modification. That means that you saw that something needed to be fixed and you modified it to make it better. Yeah. Okay. You improved your design. Extra. Mhm. But would flip it over so it's easier to sure can. Which one goes in front? This one right here. The cone goes in front. So, it's going to be on the bottom. Yep. Just like that. Okay. There is your eyeball. No, didn't. It's okay. It's unique star. Okay. And then those go on the front. Good. You need longer piece of tape for that. Let's see if this is where Yeah, have it. You need some tape. It is. Okay. There you go. All done. Nice. love it. I'm longer piece. You can get tea. guess said it would break your pan. It's okay. I'll put this. Just put it in the pile. I'll get it all cleaned up in little bit. We can help you. You going to want little eyes or big eyes? Like big big like that or size? That size. That size. Okay, I'll get them ready for you. That's my little My rocket failed. Well, did you launch it or did you drop it? It failed. think it'd be real hard. think the eyes might make it little heavy for lunch. Whoa. Sure. You got it, Like this. yeah. It's little topheavy, this one's mine. All right. Thank you, ma'am. All right. So, who remembers how long it took them to get to and from the moon this during the 10 days? It did take 10 days. Do you think it took the whole 10 days to get around the moon or just maybe half of it to get around? Half of it to get around. Give or take. Yeah, it was about four and half days. Yep. Four and half. Five days to get around the moon. That's how big it is. Well, that's how far it is. Super far away. While you It takes four four days to get to it and around it. All right, let's see. got some little moon facts here while you finish up. All right. It says, "During lunar eclipse, Earth comes between the sun and the moon." Do y'all remember the lunar eclipse? Yeah. No. You don't remember the lunar eclipse where the sun is blocking the sun or the moon is blocking the sun? Is there? No. Hang on. Miss, she's got it. Haven't had enough coffee today. the sun and the moon blocking the sunlight falling on the moon. Earth's shadow is going to cover all or part of the lunar surface. Okay. So, does the moon shine? No. No. No, it does not shine. What shines on the moon? The sun. And it's reflects the light. That's right. It is reflecting the light. All right. And when the sunlight reflects off the near side, we call it what? What face? star. nope. Half moon. What What do we call it whenever it's Where is it? right there. full moon. And when nothing is reflecting off of it, it's new moon. Good. Okay. On the back. And it doesn't matter which which Yeah, there you go. Okay. So, the eight phases that we've talked about, new moon, waxing crescent, first quarter, waxing gibbus, full moon, waning gibbus, and third or last quarter, and then the waning crescent. Who remembers how long the cycle of the moon cycle is? The lunar cycle. How many days to go around the moon? No, for the for the moon 10 days. Seven days. Okay, hang on. Time out. Okay. The cycle, the lunar cycle is how long? It is 29 and half days. So almost whole month to go from new moon all the way back. thought it said it was four. Four days. no. To get to the moon and come around the lunar cycle to get through all eight phases. should have worded that better. apologize. That is my fault. All right. Okay. So, while while Teague finishes up, we're going to review the parts of our rocket that we just built. Okay. If it'll All right. So, the very very tippy top is called point nose cone. Good. And that's where our pilots will control pilots up there. Yes. Where are the windows? Well, don't have windows on this one. You sure can. See, remember this is the guidance system. This is where they are. Okay. So, in the nose cone, that's where they're going to be. Somewhere in here. Then we have our This thing is not cooperating today. Hello. It's okay. Anyway, we have our nose cone. We have what are these called? Wing wings. Wings. Wings. Fin. That's what That's why made them blue because they're like shark. They're fins like shark. And then the whole thing is called the structural system. Okay. Okay. Just about done. Tenc you're okay. Put your eyes on. Is that the rocket that Yes. Flora, can you help him draw star? And then Teague, can you put your eyes on? I've already taken the tape off the back of your eyes, so all you have to do is stick them on. All right. All right. So, we talked we reviewed the pieces and now we're going to talk about our straw rocket craft and then we're going to go into the competition after we make it. Okay. So, we're going to have to pay close attention to our friends at NASA. This is where got our video is from NASA. The same people who sent the Aremis crew into space and got them home safely. Okay. So, if you are ready, we're gonna listen. This is YouTube. Yes, it was on YouTube, but It's from NASA's account. We're going to listen to her. She's going to take us step by step, and then we're going to build it together. Okay. All right. We're going to watch it first. story. Today we're going to build and launch star rocket and then try to improve our design. NASA uses rockets to launch satellites and astronauts into space. Rockets are tall and thin and have point of nose cone to make them travel through the air smoothly. All rockets need source of propulsion or energy to get off the ground. NASA's rockets use engines and rocket fuel. The rocket you'll build today will use air from your loss. To build your rocket, you'll need few items. First, get copy of the rocket found on the activity linked below, or just use piece of plain paper that you can grab pair of scissors, sharpen, straw, some tape, and tape measure if you have one. Now, cut out the rocket body, also known as piece of launch. Wrap the paper snugly around your pencil and tape the paper to itself. Be sure to not tape the paper to your pencil. Next, cut out the fins along the dash line. Be sure to not to the end of the pencilist. See that? You're good. We're going to do it together. Yes. We're going to cut on the lights. think they're rocket. It goes really far. That's what our colorful ones are going to be. Launch your new rocket and recording the design. Take look at this page. All right. So, we have our regular instructions here, which have printed out for us. Does it go like this? Yes, ma'am. And then you're going to take small smallest piece of tape. Now, do wrap around? Yes. Okay. We're We're going to cut it. And then we're going to wrap it around the pencil. You're okay. All the way like right there. accidentally cut this out. You you can cut it out about like right. That's your fence. Yeah. We're going to wrap it all the way around. So if you give it if you would like to wait until do it with you, that's fine. Or you can go ahead. You're okay. Everybody's rocket is going to be just little bit different. Well, Miss may wrap it little bit tighter than y'all. Or you may Are you in contest? can be if you would like for me to. No. No. figured figured it'd be best if it was just y'all. don't know about that. Big lungs, right? Take deep breaths. Yeah. You got you gota like right here. Mhm. And then you're gonna you're gonna wrap it around. Yep. And then you get piece of tape and you tape it to itself. The paper to the paper, not paper to pencil. We're going to leave the pencil on here. We're taking the pencil right now. We're going to take the pencil out. That's It's the shape for the straw. But the pencil get round. Can you help me stay round? Yes, ma'am. sure can. Hang on. Hold it. It won't go around. You're okay. need piece of tape, but can't get to this. Okay. Here's your tape. There's your tape. Can you help me fold this around? Yes. And Maria asked first. So, watch. I'm going to go like this. And then I'm going to kind of roll it together. And then I'm going to hold it like careful girl. Like this. And if you need more tape, that's fine. Okay, you ready? All right, wrap around. So, I'm going to wrap or roll, however you want to call it, the rocket body around the pencil. And then you can get your tape. My pencil fell out. Okay, it's okay. You can put your your figured this might be little challenging and thought y'all might like challenge. We love we get challenges on right there. Wrap it around. my gosh. Help you. Can you give me your feet? There you go. All right. don't know. That's good question. need to put more. don't know if it's going to make me lose. Well, think we're all going to need little bit of tape. See, look. She made some as practice. And look, look at that first one that made. That's mess, Could you use like two pieces? need three. She needs three is what she's saying. need two. used think think it's going to depend on our fins and our nose cone that we make. Okay. Not just the body. my gosh. Almost. Yes, ma'am. you got it, Emory. Thank you. All right. she's got big old mess on her desk. look. Yeah. yeah. We're putting our liv tight. No, it's not. It's not tight enough. I'm sure it's tight enough. It doesn't have to be so tight. All right. Loose. See? never mind. Yeah. was going to say think yours is pretty tight. Okay. No, it's not. It's supposed to come out. Mine's not coming out. So, you can put the straw in. That's what it's supposed to do, silly. Okay. Take it out. Not right now. Don't take it out right now. Can have blue rocket? Yes. no. accidentally cut those little pieces. It's okay. It's okay. My hands. It's okay. Okay. So, now we're going to tape our fence to our rocket. Okay. Do we cut them apart? Yes. Should we do this? Yes. Your pencil or your paper? Pencil. It's okay. It doesn't have to be perfect. Sorry, girl. No, I'm going to lose. already have three pieces of tape on me. don't mind. Can y'all can y'all have little bit of faith in yourself, please? Yeah. Just little. Okay. must have faith. Thank you, Emory. That is the right attitude. can do this. Look, this is when Miss was in high school in physics class. We had to make boat out of cardboard and duct tape and we had to paddle across the swimming pool of the high school. That was lot harder than this. Did you sink? Yes, very quickly. was not very good at it. So, you get who won? there was kid in my class, our valad Victorian one. Her name was Whitney. He's very, very, very smart. And she actually went Can you help me? Well, you're going to bend them. Were you allowed to have help? Yes. So, we were in teams. We were in teams of three. So, two people would be in the boat and one person would be on the side and they would push you and then you you and your teammate had to mine keeps it's not they're so close. It's okay. It's okay that they're close. Where do you put these on the They're going to go at the bottom. See, look. You see where mine are? That's what she said. Yeah. can do do we fold them like in the back? The the the fence? Yes, the fence. Yeah, you're going to fold them. So, it's going to kind of look like that. We had color paper all alone. Our second one is going to be colored piece of paper. can take picture? You mean this is our This is our thingy. We're making two because we're going to modify our design in minute. Can we take one of them home or both? You're going to take all of it home. That means get to throw my heart. I'm going go. Three, two, one. Smush off. Smush. Wherever you are. that says think that his cheek your phone like this. Are is your Are your numbers okay, Okay. No, you never even checked them. think he knows by the sound. Right. So, you're going to cut them in half and then you're going to glue them to the bottom or glue. Tape. Tape. It doesn't have to be perfect. Like this. It's trial. Yes. Yes. Here. All the way at the bottom or something? Yes. Like this. But make sure you don't tape over. Yes. No, it's fine. You're supposed to fold them. Is it too hard, buddy? I'm sorry. Okay. Ready? So, I'm going to take piece of tape and then want you to hold your pencil and I'm going to tape this to the bottom of your rocket. Ready? So, I'm going to go like right there. And then we're going to take the other side with the other fin with another small piece of tape. Okay. And then we're going to go right. We're making colored one. We are. That's going to be our second one. Cuz the paper weighs just little bit more and you're going to make your fence look just little bit different. Maybe your nose cone is little bit different. no. The nose cone. The nose cone. We're going to make the nose cone. We have to squish the paper together. Okay. So, does everyone have their fens? Laura, you're working on yours. Okay. squished it. There you go. Come on, girl. Squished it. You squished it. Yep. And we're going to tape it together. Tape it. know it's lot of tape. Yes. The whole point is Okay. So, now I'm going to take your pencil out. Okay. Y'all are fine. Don't worry about the camera. know. But it's okay. What? Because you know what? Yes. You know what? Bye-bye. told you to be yourselves. wanted you to be yourself. know. Like crazy. That's okay. Miss She's little crazy, too. Okay. So, you're going to squish and turn. Twist it so that you have nose cone. Okay. Ready? Almost. And then can't do this. You can do it. Just pinch it. And then if you can't, that's okay. If you just just try. That's okay. So, so it's because let me see about getting this shape just little bit better. We have to twist it like that. Yeah. You know how you like twist straw paper? So, now we're going to squish and twist. think just pencil. Maybe it's aerodynamic now. no, it actually cracked. no. That's okay. We'll try it. We'll try it anyway and then we'll make the next one. Okay, that's it. Look, you got it. You just have to You just have to Good job, Laura. Are we done? Almost. and then we'll do our little competition. I'll show you what to do. Okay. Okay. We're going to go line from start line to finish line. So, who can do in the most throws? No, we're not going to throw it. We're going to blow into it. We're going to blow into the straw. want my gosh. all blue. Okay. Yeah. We all want the same blue. There you go. To take this out. No. So, Miss is going to show you how to do it. You ready? It's okay. Fix it. You have time to fix it. All right. So, look. Here's our starting line right here. And I'm going to hold hold it so it doesn't fall. Right. Okay. And then I'm going to let go. And you almost almost made it to the finish line. Whoa. Mine's broken. yours made it as far as mine. OKAY. SO, IT'S ABOUT EIGHT FEET FROM line to line. You sure did. No, you went two times. Hey, it's okay. It's okay. Listen, we didn't start yet. Not for real. Are we practicing? Yes. Y'all may practice for moment. Mine did this. Does that count as one? We'll see. Hang on. Okay. have Miss Lauraai. And then we have Tig and Emory. Okay. So, trial one. How do you Well, I'm okay. Start at the line. Your feet can't pass the line. You need to add some tape or something. Girl, there you go. I'd say that's that's about six feet. So, hers went about six feet. So, Emory was about six. yeah. Is this yours? The same, think. Let's Let's say 6 two. Well, add some go. think I'm far. Hang on. Okay. So that's about six. I'd say closer to five and half. got here. got here. Okay. Hang on. Hang on. That was only round one. Go back. won. The first round. Okay. Okay. We're all going to go one at time. Okay. I'm last. Okay. Laura, go. Okay. That's about four feet. So, we're gonna say four feet. Four feet. Dang, that's about seven feet. Good job, man. What? It's only three more than me. Wait, mine's broken. Well, get piece of tape. Wait, it's broken. Mine's not broken. Is it your straw that's broken or the the the whole thing? Let me see. Let's add some tape on it. Can use yours? No, you got to use yours. I'd say Lord. No, no, you are. If we're doing We're going to do okay. We'll get another straw. Okay. Yay. Okay. Hang on. We still We're still waiting on Emory's turn. No, accidentally stepped on your legs by accident. Okay, hang on. Hang on. Okay, now want you to go try. You did one practice. You do one practice since we just fixed it. won. My gosh. Well, okay. Go get it so you can do it your second round, please. What do you What do you do with it? How did you do that? Did win? just taped the top like we're supposed to. Do you have holes in your top? This should be closed. Is it open? have big hole in here. well, let's fix that. And then my father. Can It's my turn. Yes, ma'am. It is your turn. I'm watching. am watching. She literally It was her trial. Watching. was watching and we're right there by the desk. I'm watching. Okay, I'm watching. You ready? It's breaking. You're okay. Can do one more practice? One more. It's all about trial, right? Good. Okay. Who's was this? This was Teague. You if we should go back. It's all up. You're welcome. Wait. Okay. All right. turn. Take deep breath. I'm stepping. Take deep. Just take deep breath and blow. You can't. You got it. Can see it? Mom broken. no. This is my practice. Okay. This is my practice. no, MY ROCKET BROKE. OKAY. IS IT BROKEN? NO, it's just Hey, it flew. Just don't hold the paper whenever you do it. Okay, holding it. That was not my tri. That was not my tri. Okay. HOW MUCH MADE? That's That's Laura's room. Okay, it's not blooming. See, aim it up. Try aiming up. Let's see what the issue is here. Where? There he goes. That was your practice, Emry. No, need your last one. Is that your practice or No. No, that was That was your real one. Yeah. Deal. All right. So, we can go to round three. We'll say seven feet. Did lose? Okay. What did get? What did get? Six. Seven. What did get? That was We haven't done our third trial yet. Let's go to trial three. Yeah, this was my and then we'll do it. This was my third trial. It went six feet. can't No, it's my turn. Okay, pick up your rocket and go stand over there. Hang on. That was not my room. All right, time out. We're all practice. Time out. No practice. We're going to do round three. The last two rounds will be with our colored paper and then we'll see how it goes. Okay. All right. Try all three. Teague, are you going? Go ahead, friend. I'm going last. Okay. About six feet. Who's going to lead? Me and we'll see. We'll add it up in second. Six. Laura's not winning. That's okay. Lauraai is It's your turn. Okay. Same thing. Yep. Six. All right, Emory, your turn. It's okay. You'll get it. Just keep trying. Keep trying, girl. You have to go like, are you Okay, you are aiming up. What do you keep changing from time to time? keep rubbing it. yeah. Okay. Mine's not going. know. see. Okay. Hang on. Broke my rocket. She stepped on it. wait. What did grab? No. Hang on. have her rocket. Let's see. Yeah, IT WORKS PERFECTLY FINE. Like know you are. don't know why it's not going. It's not going for my life, but it's going for others. What time is it? Is it time to leave? Close. Okay. It's almost Guess what? If we keep on learning about space, we skip our time. No. No. But don't all of us have grandma or mom that works here? Pretty much am the mom that works here. or mom that works here. know, girl. Try mine. Let's see. Let's see if it's your straw. But where's your straw? Right. My my not my straw. want you to try my rocket and we'll see if it's your straw. Let's Let's trial and error it. Okay, that went. But that doesn't count. That's yours, right? But mine's broken. Okay, it's okay. Does that count? Yeah. How about we take your average? We'll take your average. So, we'll add everything up. What am doing? We'll add it all up. So, we have Emory. That does not count right now. 6 + 7 is what? 13. 13. No, that was know, girl. But that was mine. Okay, hang on. We're going to be fair. Okay, so we're going to take your average. So about half of this is six and half, right? So we're going to give you six and half for this one. Okay. All right. I'm going to add these up. want you to go pick piece of paper, colored piece of paper, cut it out, glue it, and if you still need help in minute, will help you. Can go to the trash can? I'll find one. It has my on it. lord. Okay. 10. Okay. It's not working. That's why 10 16.2.2 13 18 and 12. got 18 and half. Let's go. Did you redo mine? Cuz you added this number. added 6.5. Yes, I'm adding yours right now. okay. So, 13 + 6 and half is what? well, it will be 19 something 8 17 and 12 or 18 18 and half 18.5. Why are we guessing? Okay, look. Let's take six and six. Six and six is what? 12. 12, right? So 6 and 1/2 + 6 is 12 and half. That's 19 then. Yep. So then we're going to add the seven. There's no extra after. So we have Are we all adding like Emry right now? 19 and half. Yes, we were adding emories. Emory one. She used and took the average. So tried my best to make it equal. Mine. Yours was 16.2. Okay. So, now we're going to make like took all the air that was in here. You did good. You're not supposed to take big breath. Mhm. It's okay. The other ones just put big cuz my thing was at work. Well, need you to have me on my whole on the whole thing. We just made one together. So can win. Y'all are okay. So can win. Hey, do you think every class ever is going to be like super super well behaved? No. Or do you think that we're going to have fun and we're going to Yes. don't know how to fold them. It's okay. We're going to have fun. That's what this group is about, right? We're going to have fun and we're going to make learning fun. I'm using all your ducks. So if it's little chaotic, that's okay for me. That's tape. Okay, good. It's working. It's okay. It's sticking to tape. There you go. Good. had to add one more. would to make sure that it stays. So, I'd add one down here and one up here. Higher up. There you go. That's what would do. That one. Do we get prize if we won? No, it's high five. How about bring something on Monday? What? For all of you for participating. yay. Deal. I'd bring it tomorrow, but know you're going to be here tomorrow or not going to be here tomorrow. Will you give us it to Well, yes. No, mean tomorrow. No, I'll give it to you all at the same time. So, y'all you are going to take us like again and on Monday? I'll get you on Monday for little for little treat because y'all have been so good. Ice cream. got my thing wrong. Can it be toy? toy? baseball bat. baseball? You think made money? softball bat. Everybody plays some some kind of know. Don't you all? Well, played soccer and now play softball. Okay. was going to say, are you playing softball now? play softball and and play so don't get this thingy wrong. Okay, this one at the bottom or this volleyball whichever way cuz remember this is your modified one. This is you're making the changes. So this one y'all can put the fins however you want. My gosh, need know. I'm gl I'm taping your body together. The frame of your rocket body. know. So you're taping his head. Wow. No, don't know about all that. What? You said you were taping his body. did. should have changed my words. Wrong again. You're okay. my gosh. Is it wrong or is it learning experience? learning experience. Thank you, Teague. All right. There's your body or your frame. That's good. And then you can mine more. need another one. got mine. Can we take deep breath? can't. Everybody knows how to No, it's supposed to be snow the rose and blow the candy. That's right. Where am it's right here. They're on top of each other. Okay. Is that how you want it to be? No. Okay. Well, then take off little bit of tape. Use your scissors to cut some of the tape. Hey, are you going to glue your fins? Or tape? keep saying glue and mean tape. Cut you next to Okay. You ready? Is that yours? This is mine. Yes, ma'am. help them with their body, their frame. So, will help you with yours. You get lot or this little. It's up to you. How much tape would you like to use? Barely any. So, can barely any. Wow. How you're going to stay together? Once you shoot it, it's going to blow. Hey, y'all are gonna add up the final tallies to see who wins. Us. Yeah. It's wrong. Can you just tell us how many feet or we're doing tallies? No, I'm going to do feet. I'll tell you feet, but then we're going to add it all up. But want y'all to do it this time. want you to do the final. Adding up our own or can we add someone else's? You can add up your own. That way you do this. Do you put it like that? Yes, sir. Now it's sticky. See, it's still Why is it not Is it on the It's on the wrong side. Yeah, but when you stick on Just flip it around. What? But think it's the wrong way. No, you're fine. Okay. Is that Is that how it's supposed to be? You just turn it like this. Yes. If that is how you would like it. don't want it like that. want it. Perfect. don't know. It's not working the way want it. Can tell you something? Things rarely go perfectly. Yeah. Help me. I'm trying to put it around but it's not going like I'm happy to help. Which way do you do on the am happy to help or the other side. Where did you get that color? it was Laura's. This is Laura's frame for her rocket. She asked for help just like y'all did. Okay. So Miss has helped with everybody's frame. So your frames are the same. my god. How do you do it? Did lose? No, you just mess up. Look, it's fine. It's fine. Paper right there, though. What? Do you want to cut it off? Mhm. Okay, I'll hold it. Just don't. Just be careful. they're both on the same side. That's bad. Yes. Trim little bit of tape off there. And then it should be okay. Here, you tape it. I'm not taping your fins because that's what helps it drive fly. I'm trying to do this. Okay. Which way is But it's not that working. How? Whichever way you want it to go. Okay. So, do you think being scientist is easy or hard? Really hard. It can be hard, but it can be fun, right? You want to be What do you want to be? want to be biologist. Yeah. She wants to study about ocean dolphins. Yeah, cuz dolphins are my favorite sea animal. marine biologist. Biologist. want to be snakeologist. snakes are creepy. They can kill you. Yeah. would never take snake. Okay. So, do you think there are snakes in outer space? No, probably not. Right. Snakes are going to fall straight to the ground. don't think they'd have hard time living in space. They can't They have to slither. How are they going to slither? know, right? You think they'd just be floating around? forgot to do one part. Okay. Yes, the nose cone. okay. We're almost done. Everybody, no. Those parents like to show up really early. know. It goes past the playground. It goes all the way down to the church. to the church. go to that church to the Presbyterian church. go to the church down there. Yeah. Yikes. All right. That's how early people come. Some of them show up at like 1:00 to wait. my god. Two hours at 2 hours and 30 minutes. They have to wait. guess they have that kind of time. don't have that kind of time. You work here. I'm busy. Well, even when didn't work here, because didn't always work here. But did you work? Okay. Well, stayed home with my kids for while. Fold this side. Okay. They're folded. Look, I'm going to kind of fold these in together. Okay. And then nose cone, right? You need help with your nose cone? Yes. Okay. Well, need some and don't. Okay. So, piece of tape. That's funny. I'm going to win this time. was hoping we could have done this outside, but the rain kind of messed that up. Yeah, it's actually pouring right now. Mhm. How would we do it if it was really windy? Go to Ella. There you go. Who's Ella? Lame. Ella Ly. don't know who Lamey is. You Ella, she's musical artist. She knows that she does not. She's country music. careful. There you go. Okay. Remember, scientists have to remember to be safe. Yes. Okay. Everybody has nose cone. It's because her her foot was like this. Okay. Miss Gia is going to try hers. Okay, keep your feet behind the blue line. Go like this and we're going to go and then step. Okay, Miss is going to over the line. All right, time out. Miss is going to try hers. need everyone behind the line. Wait, wait. Okay, Miss flew, but it only went about four feet. Don't hit me with it. Okay, ready. call last. What? All right. Nose goes. No. Laura, it's you. You go. You go first. You go first, girl. how about it's in order. Okay, let's do Okay, that is good suggestion. We'll go. Yep. Just like this. What? That still makes me my shoulder. And then we can go the other way and then we'll reverse it. Practice. There's no practice. Not going. We were both the same. Hey, know we're having fun, but we got to wrap it up. Okay, it's okay. It's my gosh. don't know how to say that. All right, it went about six feet. Yep, went about six feet. Now, Teague, wait till she crosses. There we go. See you seven. All right, Emory, let him get his and then your toes. little bit further back, ma'am. That's good. You got it, girl. that's about seven feet, too. Okay. Ready? Okay. Last round. no, I'm gonna get past. Hey, Emry, you go first. No. Yes, we're going in reverse now. Deep breath. Okay, Emry is going. Everybody quiet. Pretend it's golf. No noise. hey. careful. Whoa. Seven and half. Well, this is eight. seven and half. So, seven and half feet on your last one. get your hand. Get your hand off. There you go. Don't hold the paper. No, the same. It's about the same. His is little bit above. So, I'd say seven.9 seven eight. Let's say 7.8. Okay. Who's winning? We'll see. All right, Miss Lai, it's your turn. It's okay. Miss G's didn't go very far, so it's okay. Don't hold the first place. you went eight feet. You went the whole way. Okay. wait. That was one. no. won. bounce. Hers bounced. It still landed. All right. Okay. So, I'm going to write your total right here. 16.2. And then y'all are going to Laura, want you to come add your six and your eight to your other total. My eight. Yep. So 6 + 8 is what? 14. 14. Yes, ma'am. So we're going to put 14 here and you're going to add it up together. 14. Mhm. So draw line underneath. Carry the two down because there's no decimal in the next one. It's 30. So it's going to go right here. 2. And then what is what's 16 plus 14? So you're gonna write 30 two. And that's good. All right. So now we're going to do yours. You ready? Okay. So we have 18.5 and then what is seven and 7.8? Okay. What's seven and seven? 14 but then we have to add the eight 14. So now we're going to add these. So 8 + 5 is 13 13. So put three here. Carry your one above the eight. So we're going to draw one right here. Okay. So 8 + 1 is nine. Nine. 9 + 4 is 13. 9 + 4. Yes. Three. So we're going to put three here. And then we're going to carry the one again. Carry the one again. We're going to draw another one. And then one. One. And one is what? Three. Three. So three. And then put the point right here. You got 303. You got 33.3. Okay. All right. Last one. So, hang on, girl. We have 19.5. And then what is 7 + 7? 14. 14. And then we add that 0.5. So now need you to add it together. What's 5 + 5? 10. So zero right here. Carry your one. One right here. Add add one right here above the nine. Okay. So 1 + 9 10. 10. Are y'all paying attention? So we're going to put another 10 right here plus four. 10 + 4 + 14. So we're going to put four right here. Give me one. Carry your one. You're going to add one above this one. Okay. One plus one plus one. Four. Four. One + one plus one. Three. Wait. One. Yeah, that's four. Well, you put this one in the wrong spot. So, let me see. So, we have one. So, one plus one plus one. Three. Three. Three. So, put three there. Emry. One. Put dot there. Put dot there. And who had the biggest score? Emory. Emory. GOOD JOB, GUYS. She only had two more than me, think. know. Wasn't it like the same as me though, but had four more than you. Yeah, Emory. Emory was in the lead the whole time, it looks like. Okay, so real quick to recap, we went over the lunar phases. We went over are we paying attention? We went over the lunar phases. Okay, so we know what phase it is. We went over what it takes to live on the moon, which is shelter, filter, water, and And the solar panels for power. Okay. And was it easy or was it hard to design rocket? It was kind of hard, wasn't it? know it was hard to to get all these scores. So, do you now see why maybe we don't live on the moon yet? Yes. It takes long time to build giant rocket to get us to the moon. All right. So, real quick, say We're going to watch our last video. Can Can put all the trash away? In just second. We'll clean up. Okay. You ready? We're going to watch the video. Y'all have to sit down. That's fine. Okay. This is Artemis 2 launching booster ignition and lifttoff. The crew of Artemis now. See how much fuel they're having to use to get 9,000. Yeah, they're not that high up. It is little warm in here. All right. All right. Did we learn anything new today? Yeah. No. No. What? What did you learn lot? What did you learn today, Emory? We learned that Hey, stop. Listen, listen, listen. We learned that in all of our we've been learning about moons and we are we learned about we learned how listen and we learned that it's really tough. You can't just say it's easy so right because it took lot of work and lot of brain power. Right. Because you have to blow in it and if you blow too much you'll lose all your air. Yeah. Yeah. All right. Well, am super proud of you guys for sticking through it. know it was difficult. All right. Are we Are we ready to blast off into outer space? Yeah. Do y'all think we helped NASA today? Yes. All right. Good job, guys. Yep. Yep. We're going to clean up. Where are we going to put the trash?
