hello and welcome to tutoring hour in this video we'll learn all about pictographs first let's understand what pictograph is pictograph is way of representing data using images each image in the pictograph represents certain number of things let's learn the parts of pictograph using an example this is Oreo with this ice cream truck this is the pictograph of the ice cream flavors he sold today the number of ice creams sold this is the title of the pictograph then we have two columns in the First Column we have the three flavors of ice creams vanilla chocolate and strawberry and in the second column we have the number of ice creams sold this is the key that says each ice cream icon represents one ice cream now that we know the parts of pictograph let's learn to interpret the pictograph and answer few questions how many vanilla flavored ice creams were sold one two and three vanilla flavored ice creams were sold how many chocolate flavored ice creams did Oreo sell he sold one two three four five and six chocolate flavored ice creams how many strawberry flavored ice creams did Oreo sell he sold one two three and four strawberry flavored ice creams how many more chocolate flavored ice creams did Oreo sell then strawberry flavored ice creams he sold two more chocolate flavored ice creams then strawberry flavored ice creams which flavor was the most popular chocolate was the most popular flavor which flavor was the least popular vanilla was the least popular flavor how many ice creams did Oreo sell in all he sold one two three four five six seven eight nine ten eleven twelve and thirteen ice creams in all looks like we've nailed it let's learn to organize information by drawing pictograph this is Sam he washes yucky Mucky cars at the car wash on Monday he washed seven cars on Tuesday he washed three cars on Wednesday he washed five cars and on Thursday he washed four cars now let's organize this information into table let's first give our pictograph title cars washed we'll write our categories the names of the four days days Monday Tuesday Wednesday Thursday we'll then make another column to represent the data let's select an icon for the pictograph since it is car wash we will use car icon now let's assign value to the icon each car icon represents one car on Monday Sam washed seven cars so we'll draw one two three four five six and seven cars he washed only three on Tuesday so we'll draw one two and three cars Sam washed five cars on Wednesday so we'll draw five cars on Thursday he washed four cars there we go now that our pictograph is ready let's try and answer few questions how many cars did Sam wash on Tuesday and Wednesday he washed three cars on Tuesday and five cars on Wednesday and that makes it eight cars how many more cars did Sam wash on Monday than on Thursday Sam washed seven cars on Monday and four cars on Thursday which means he washed three more cars on Monday then on Thursday did Sam wash more cars on Tuesday or Wednesday Sam washed more cars on Wednesday on which day did Sam wash the most cars on Monday which day did Sam wash the fewest cars on on Tuesday how many cars did he wash in four days he washed 19 cars in all that was quite simple right let's learn to interpret scaled pictograph scaled pictograph is one in which each picture represents more than one item let's take look at our next pictograph animals adopted this is our title we have six categories the dog the cat the ferret the rabbit the guinea pig and the hamster the key says each Emoji here represents five animals time to answer few questions how many dogs were adopted we have seven emojis and each represents five animals seven times five is thirty-five so 35 dogs were adopted from the shelter how many cats were adopted we have nine emojis which means 45 cats were adopted how many ferrets were adopted three times five is fifteen so fifteen ferrets were adopted how many rabbits were adopted five times five and that makes it 25 rabbits how many guinea pigs were adopted four times five is twenty guinea pigs how many hamsters were adopted eight times five and that is 40 hamsters how many more guinea pigs than ferrets were adopted ferrets have three emojis and guinea pigs have four which means guinea pigs have one more Emoji than ferrets one emoji is equal to five animals so five more guinea pigs were adopted than ferrets how many animals were adopted in all there were 180 animals adopted in all which was the most adopted animal at the shelter the cat which was the least adopted animal at the shelter the ferret looks like you've mastered interpreting picture graphs if you need more practice visit www.tutoringhour.com like And subscribe to our channel for regular updates thanks for watching
