hi guys welcome to my channel I'm Juliana this video is all about how to style rectangular body type I've been wanting to do more videos on how to dress according to your body type because think it's one of the most useful tools you can use to elevate your outfits when you find styles that complement your body type your clothes will begin to look like they were Tailor Made For You the first video on my channel was actually how to style the inverted triangle body type as am personally that body type and wanted to do the rectangle type next because it's actually the most common type in fact fact around 46% of women actually have rectangular body type which is pretty wild considering how most of women's clothing is geared towards more hourglass silhouette but first have small disclaimer lot of the tips in this video will be geared towards making your figure less boxy and more curvy if you don't care to look more curvy or don't want to change how your body looks with your clothes then you totally don't have to ultimately what's most flattering is going to be what's genuine and authentic to you and there's definitely no hard and fast rules saying that you can't wear certain thing just because of your body type mean by the book inverted triangle body types are not really supposed to wear shoulder details but here am so yeah at the end of the day it's all just clothing and really wear what you want these are just tips that will help your clothes just look effortlessly flattering even if you don't really want to put in that much effort or thought into your outfit and yeah let's begin so what is the rectangular body type this is when you have mostly straight silouette with modest curves your hips and shoulders are of equal width and you have little to no waist definition I'd like to know that when we classify body types it doesn't have to do as much with body weight or height your body type refers more to your bone structure as well as where you genetically tend to gain muscle and store fat unlike other types like the pear shape which will naturally gain weight in their thighs and hips the rectangle shape will gain weight in all of its parts proportionately know that there are some with this body type that might not really like their body because they feel boxy or boyish but if you are this type would encourage you to actually see it as great Advantage because you have lot of options when it comes to outfits and the rectangular body type is actually the most common in terms of runway models this is because rectangular shape kind of acts as blank canvas since all of the body parts are so well balanced so in other words you have greater variety of options that will be naturally flattering because your body parts are already All In Harmony however still understand if you would like to look more curvy or shapely in your outfits and that is part of lot of the tips I'm going to be discussing in this video so if we have body type that is already more rectangular we want to avoid Silhouettes that are more boxy or angular and being that your body parts are all pretty much the same width we want to add things to our outfits to avoid looking kind of monotonous or flat and things that will counteract the sameness in our body proportions so we want to gravitate towards clothing pieces that can help break up the silhouette and this can be done in lot of ways for areas that we wish to expand we can add things like Frills or Ruffles or or other embellishments and for where we want to add definition or maybe add curves we can use things like cutouts and color blocking fril or puffy details will naturally add volume to an area this can be great if we want to give the illusion of bigger chest or wider hips for this would suggest things like frilly tops or Puff sleeves and for bottoms things like ruffled skirts or flared shorts can really add more width to your lower half and these sorts of embellishments are also great if you want to appear more feminine as whole because these will introduce softer lines into your figure cutouts are great because they act as sort of visual illusion this is in the sense that they trick the eye into following the line of the Garment rather than the line of your silhouette this can be seen especially with things like bodysuits or swimsuits that have cutouts at the waist these sorts of cutouts definitely make the waist look smaller and enhance more hourglass figure another way to add interest is by color blocking and you can do color blocking with really bright colors or still more muted colors either way adding different colors will help break up the silhouette and make you appear less rectangular and you can even use color blocking in way that'll make you appear curvier dark colors are meant to slim and minimize an area whereas light colors are used to make an area more voluminous or wider so definitely experiment with building outfits that have dark colors at the waist and lighter colors at the chest and the hips and this can even be done simply by wearing dark belt with an otherwise light colored outfit all right now let's move on to necklines v-neck and plunge necklines are going to be super flattering because they add lot of emphasis to the waist it's almost like an arrow pointing to your chest and bringing attention to the middle line of your figure rounded neck lines like the scoop or sweetheart neckline can also be great because they introduce curves into your silhouette so in general look for lower and wider necklines because they're going to visually lengthen the shoulder and bust area however high necklines can also be great since again think this body type is probably one of the most versatile out of the body types but if you are going to wear something like turtleneck try and make sure there's still waist emphasis like belt and this will help preserve definition and prevent your waist from looking kind of like tube for sleeves you can really play up your romantic side with like puffed flared or princess sleeves these will again add volume to your upper half and balance out the angularity in your figure for Tops in general try to avoid those that are very boxy or very cropped as these can look ill-fitting and emphasize the boxiness in your figure instead opt for wrap tops flare tops like peplum or even belted Styles and the same goes for jackets and Blazers you want to make sure that your jackets fall below the waist and more towards the hips this is because crop jackets can look little bizarre because crop jackets are designed to Showcase very narrow waist and wider hips great option is to opt for Blazers that really flare out at the hips and things like oversiz Blazers can actually be really nice if you want to bypass the waist definition as whole if you looking looking to give the illusion of wider hips skirts can be great option to add volume to your lower half like mentioned adding embellishments like bows pleats and Ruffles will help to add volume and make an area larger would recommend things like pleated skirts bubble skirts as well as more puffy almost tutu Styles obviously still based on your comfort zone and your personal style I'm not really advocating that you go as cartoonish as possible but the same goes for dresses Silhouettes that flare out and have waist definition will best to give shape to our figure bodycon dresses tend to rely heavily on having large hips and can honestly be hard to style unless you have the perfect physique belted or WRA dresses can also help to add emphasis to the waist even in empire style or baby doll dress can be great these kind of styles don't really add definition to the waist but because it removes the visual proportions so entirely it can look kind of flattering and streamlined in that sense when looking for shorts really like the ones that have Ruffles and an integrated eye belt because they add both volume and waist definition avoid anything that is just solely tight as that can emphasize more boxy shape shorts that have busy patterns can also be great in the same way as color blocking they help to break up the silhouette as well as ADD volume flared shorts are also great option because they add width to our lower half and the same can be said for flared jeans and flared trousers flared or bell bottom jeans are really great because they add lot of shape to our silhouette recommend to avoid skinny or even straight like jeans because they can again enhance the rectangular nness of your figure so instead always look for more flowy or wider Styles when shopping look for styles that have Bigger Pockets or maybe pleat again this will add interest and also more volume to your hips and lastly in terms of Rise think all of them can be flattering with rectangular body type midrise Styles can be flattering because they help break up the silhouette best but also high-rise can offer the illusion of more hourglass figure so in terms of Fri think is based on what feels most physically comfortable to you so yeah guys that's all for this video comment down below if you have rectangular body type and what kind of
