Securing Your Castle with a Kwikset SmartKey Padlock

hello and welcome back to on the workbench weren't we're gonna be taking look at tool that's not really necessarily tool directly but used to protect and secure your tools this is the quick set smart key padlock that you might use to lock toolbox row lock up something outside so in the package you get the lock I've already opened it up because it came in this blister pack and hate opening those so the first thing want you to know about this lock is I'm like lot of padlock so put the key in and open the shackle up it pops open but while this is open actually can't remove the key the key is stuck in the lock and then automatically let's see if close this here just right when shut it it rotates the cylinder so can remove the key so while the lock is open the key must stay in so I'm not sure if you consider that feature or weakness I'm not particularly happy about that because I'd like to build certain situations leave it open and have someone else lock it up after me without having to leave key stuck in there particularly because the whole advantage of this is you can match this to other keys that you might have around your house so if you want to have this open the heat of your house has to be left for someone else to lock up so I'm not particularly fond of that we willing to live with it right now but something that wish quick-set would change about the lock and so on the shackle here this looks like lot of other quick set keys or your quick set locks it's got the little hole on the side the lock does come with the special quick set tool so to make this work we're gonna put our key in think of this just like doorknob and then we're going to turn it 90 degrees just like this the shackles gonna open or rotate that out of the way we'll take our key and we'll stick it straight in we'll pull the key out and then we'll take our new key and we'll put it in we'll rotate the shackle turn the key pull it out put our new key back in and you can see that my new key now works the lock the old key no longer works lot so very simple to have this key to be able to match the rest of your house so the rest of your house is on the quick-set smart key system you can use up this lock do we'll add an extra lock to something else that you might have that needs some level of security again I'm not super happy with us love the concept can use my house key on padlock and have that match without needing to add extra keys - what's carried around but still not super happy that if unlock it my key is now stuck unless want to rekey the lock which don't think always want to have to rekey the lock so this is look at the quick set smart key padlock hope you have great day
