THE EASIEST WAY TO ADD INTEGERS

welcome students to another lesson today we're going to add integers so all an integer is is just whole number that tells you how far above or below zero you are for example number five or the number positive five is basically telling you that it is five units above zero negative seven would mean your seven units or seven steps below zero the way look at positive and negative numbers is basically like having money and owing money so if you have positive five it's like having or getting five dollars negative seven is like owing somebody seven dollars when it comes to adding and subtracting integers if you keep in mind the idea of having and owing money it'll make it lot easier to calculate your answer if you have positive five plus positive seven it's like you're having five dollars and you have seven dollars which means you have total of twelve dollars positive numbers are what we deal with all the time so they're pretty simple but what if they switch around for example what is positive five plus negative seven you could look at that as having five dollars and owing somebody seven dollars so basically you would give five dollars to that person and you would still owe them two dollars so positive five plus negative seven would be negative to the same thing the other way around say if you had negative five plus positive seven so you owed somebody five dollars but you have seven dollars on you obviously would give them the five dollars back that you owed them you would have two dollars left over which means the answer is positive to say you have this problem negative five plus negative seven if you own one person five dollars and he owed somebody else seven dollars you would owe total of twelve dollars so the answer would be negative twelve there's simple rule for this if you don't like the idea of owing people money because that stresses you out the simple formula or simple idea of remembering this is when it comes to adding integers if you have the same sign just add the numbers together if you have different signs subtract the numbers but always keep the bigger sign so on the problem positive five plus negative seven seven is larger than five but the seven has the negative symbol so final answer would be negative - when it comes to subtracting before you do anything key thing is just look at that subtraction sign and then take the opposite of the symbol now let's do that another video okay hope you enjoyed that video please like it that helps with the YouTube algorithm share it with some friends show it to other people you can check out some of these videos over here they're always fun to learn new things in math please again share like and subscribe and always remember to keep on mapping
