good day kids welcome to social literacy 3. yesterday we learned that symbols are used to represent things and places symbols are used in our daily lives for important reasons now let's try this short activity can you name these symbols now try to read this one aloud did you say tree is on map it shows us where to find streets and roads under bright blue sky next one did you say plane is on the map it shows us where to find an airport where planes take off and fly now let's try the last one did you say building is on the map can you see it too it shows us where to find places just like school where kids can go and learn alright good job grade 3 learners now know you guys are already familiar with map before we proceed kindly pay attention to the lecture video in order to answer these questions these are the questions you shall answer after watching this video number one what is map number two what does map show or tell and number three what common symbols do we see on map now let's talk about the map map is flat representation of place it is used to tell the exact location of place this is why it is very useful for travelers aside from telling the location and direction of the place map shows the landforms and water forms in the place it also tells its size shape and elevation the person who makes maps is called cartographer now look at this simple and easy to understand part map map has many parts it is important to know these parts first we have the title it tells what the map is about it tells if it is map of the town country or the world map next we have the symbols these represent the landforms or watcher forms in place number three we have the legend or key it presents or lists the symbols and their meanings next we have the compass rules it tells the primary and secondary directions which shows where the north east for our primary directions we have north south west and east and for the secondary directions we have north east northwest south east and southwest and lastly we have the scale it tells how much the small unit of measure on the maps and stands for larger unit in reality this is like the ruler that we see on map so that's it did you learn something new today please feel free to re-watch the video as many times as you like and then proceed to answering short checkup activity after thank you for listening grade 3 kids see you you
