Reviving Your Plant Is It Really Dead

النص الكامل للفيديو

today we're going to be talking about one of the most drama llama plant I've ever had it's known as the White Fusion CIA and this one is my third think let's call it third and it is temperamental beast but if you can get its settings right it will flourish and become one of your most favorite plants ever look what happened despite it looking like it's completely dead like Monty Python it's not quite dead yet and despite this being really poor example of today's topic it still think illustrates good point in not assuming that plant that looks like this is meant for the trash can in fact there's still some life in this guy yet and want to show you the evidence why okay so first we're just going to zoom in here and you can see this guy is not in great shape by the way in case you're curious why this happened as mentioned in my white Fusion CIA video this guy lives on table that is right in front of window that also has heat register under it so all of the heat for my living room blows onto the sky which means that have to stay very Vigilant in making sure it has enough humidity and water around it on the flip side have an attentive ADHD which makes the yeah I'll get around to watering it something that gets pushed off until this happens and and it just makes me feel great about myself you're probably here because things aren't looking great for one of your plants and you're wondering if it could be revived first off I'm very sorry you have to watch this video so let's triage this first ready what time of year is it there's thing that happens called dieback or essentially it's plant dormancy outside perennial plants we usually cut resources off to the part that's above the soil in order to maintain the Integrity of the root system while it goes through winter and house plants can do this too obviously since your indoor climate is most likely temperature regulated it's not as drastic of temperature change for them but they will still go through phase where they just want to chill out and hibernate little bit and not think about growing just kind of you know like sit back and just take it all in case in point my rattlesnake caia and see if you can see the like this is project I've been working on and filming since about like don't know eight months now and despite it looking like the saddest Charlie Brown Christmas tree in the history of Charlie Brown Christmas trees it's not dead and is actually just in period of dormy so have been keeping it calm and relaxed and making sure that it gets through this so now that it's early spring can start upping the water routine and upping the fertilizer and making sure that this guy comes back and if you've ever had any sort of carnivorous plant like venus fly trap those those are notorious for dying back over the winter too which can be really scary if you're impatient and don't want to give it time to kind of guess come back from the dead or come back from the brink of death so if it's winter in your area and you suspect that's what's going on your best bet is to back off your watering routine because if it's not needing lot of nutrients then it's not going to need lot of resources so cut back on your watering routine and put your plant in place that gets it adequate sunlight but not too much sunlight on average you're going to want like medium to bright indirect sunlight indirect is the key Point here and keep nursing it but do not helicopter pairing it your goal is to keep it as comfortable as possible while it chills out and waits for the spring thaw okay so we talked about winter dormy but let's talk about is your plant dead what can we do to check and get better answer for you there's couple of places to check first if you're don't have plant that's like that around but if your plant has sort of bark stem to it like you know kind of ashy almost like tree what you want to do is just take your fingernail just kind of scratch it little bit and see if there's green under it if there's green still on that stem you're in good shape but if you have just regular house plants then you're going to want to check for green stems green stems means chlorophyll is still being produced and you're in good shape this one despite looking like the saddest White Fusion colia in the world this guy right here it's still green which means there's still chlorophyll being produced used so these guys are alive still although granted this one needs to be taken care of pretty quickly now what if you only see yellow stems yellow stems are warning sign that you can still bring it back from the dead but you're going to have to act really quickly what about if all you see are brown stems it's not completely sign what you would want to do then is clip the stem and look inside if it's Hollow and dry that's dead but if there's still guess membrane around in the stem you're still in good shape are the stems sagging if the stems are still green or they're yellow and sagging that could be sign of cold shock or overwatering so again if it's yellow or green it's not dead yet you still have time to save it if it's brown again clip it and see if there's any sort of suppleness in the stems and if so you're still in good shape and here let me show you what mean by Supple let's see if you can zoom in to this right here this this is what mean by not Hollow so you can see that it's it's got some don't know little bit of Squish to it the way like this like it's still hard but you can tell that there's still some moisture in it basically speaking of suppleness don't like that word but that's the only one could think of does it still have Supple leaves this one clearly does not look like it does except this guy right here New Growth good sign this one despite being sad still has Supple sleeves which means it's still sending nutrients up the stem to the leaf you're still in good shape this thing is still alive and one of my favorite case and points on this is my prayer plant so as you can see it's in pretty big pot right and that's because typically it fills this pot up but in Winter and actually when we moved so we moved in July and that's when the dieback started cuz it didn't want to move guess so it got really really really worrisome like think it was just down to this rate here but was like don't touch it let it be maybe something will help maybe it just needs time and that's all it needed look look at this all this new growth that is happening don't give up on your plants they want to survive and they will work their damnest to make sure that they do as long as you help them out little bit now for plants that are tubers like alocasia actually you know I'm just going to cut to my alocasia black velvet right now and then there's this guy this is was is is my alocasia Black Velvet so had already cut it down as you can see to the root to try and resuscitate it but have hope still because if you look you can see that it is still solid down here however it's not particularly spongy if this one is alive it is like within hours of death so I'm going to drop this one into water propagation cup with some aquarium water think I'm not going to put fertilizer in it yet think aquarium water would be good enough and see if we can get this back from the dead too but this is why wanted to show you this one because most likely if this this is it this is what's left over from my black velvet there's still couple of roots and it being that solid gives me hope not lot of Hope cuz yeah I'm going need to stop talking and go propagate this thing but we'll give this one shot too so yeah have it back here don't know if you can see it and I'm going to have to pay attention to that hope it survives don't know I'm kind of worried about it TBD in my video where was showing you what happened to my trais gtia Blushing Bride you can see that the majority of the plant looked like it was dead and only the ends of the plant were green and supple so if your plant's looking like that is it dead kind of it it's sort of in the middle it could probably be revived if this is happening during the winter but honestly your best bet is probably just to do what did and cut off the green ends and propagate those especially if those green ends are clearly attached to dead Vines like mine was so you've done all of that you're still not sure let's check the roots that's the next and probably the most definitive answer you're going to find whether it has bulb or roots or both check to see if there's any mushy feeling around it unfortunately that is sign of rot and unless you act immediately or you've been doing this lot that's it's more of an advanced care stage mean you can try give it shot my grandfather was big DIY which is where think got all of this from and someone asked him like why would you try and fix toaster why one should go buy new one he was like well it's broke already so can't do any worse to it so think that's where get it from same thing if you want to try if there's still some parts of the bulb or root that are salvageable what you'd want to do is sterilize key point there sterilize your cutting equipment cut off the rot and then plant it into fresh soil and lastly are the roots Mia completely if so it's dead I'm sorry now what should you do if your plant looks like this while this is not actively hurting the plant it's not great it's not good look for it and it can cause it not stress but are the plant version of stress to have to deal with all of this so what you would want to do is cut off all of the obviously dead Parts like said if there are yellow stems you can give it shot and try and save those for me I'm going to find my sterile Clippers really am going to find them all right forgot to sterilize them so we'll do that now nice probal alcohol all right time to shop this one still has some in it so and this one again the stem looks good but not that leaf so we don't want to be wasting the plants precious resources on things that can't come back so that's why we leave stems that look okay and get rid of the leaves again some people just kind of like I'll just take off here and there I'm someone who thinks like if it's not coming back don't want to see it so get rid of anything that does not look great which still makes it look like sad plant but at least it's alive okay and again you want to cut down as close to the soil as possible anything that's dead so this is what it looks like now and yeah know this is it's from the dollar store now for something like this and again will show you the final result of this clearly I'm still in progress of treating this but as you can see cut off lot of the brown parts of it and could cut little more off okay and as you saw in the alocasia clip just cut that down to the little little root ball really worried about that guy to be honest but hopefully this was helpful for you if could teach you one thing out of all of this it is that don't give up there is still chance that your plant can survive neglect or cold overwatering underwatering you going on vacation whatever happened there's still most likely chance you can save it if you act quickly will give some updates on this in another video or on my community posts so check that too if you want to see updates but if you want to avoid ever having to look at this video again check out this video next because go into the simple ways you can ensure your plant thrives even for people who are like me with an inent of ADHD or forgetful or just have the palest of pale green thumbs let's call it that I'll see you over there
