Hi, welcome to MooMooMath. Today we're going to look at what prism is. Okay, up here I've got some pictures and some of these are prisms and some are not prisms. Okay, the definition of prism is three-dimensional polygon that has two parallel bases. So, two parallel bases and they're named by the shape of the base. So, let's look at our pictures. Which ones of these have parallel bases? Well, this one has hexagonal base, six sides, and it's parallel to this base. So, this one is prism and this one would be called hexagonal prism. Okay, let's look at this one in the center. Okay, we have base here and it is parallel to base here. So, this one is also prism and this would be called triangular prism. So, that one is also one. Over here, we don't have parallel bases. We actually have circle for our base. So, this one's not prism, that's cone. Okay, let's go back over here to the left. Is this one prism? Do we have parallel base? Yes, this one is and this one's rectangular prism. And then this last one, does it have base parallel to this one? No, so that one is not prism. So, the definition of prism is three-dimensional figure that has two parallel bases and the naming convention is you name it by the shape of the base. So, on this one, this is square prism cuz the base is square and this one would be again hexagonal prism because we have hexagon here and hexagon here and those are the two parallel sides.
