hi everyone we're here today at Walter Anderson's nursery to talk about fruit trees and root stock selection most fruiting trees that you encounter in the nursery are actually combination of specific fruit type grafted onto root stock on this tree you can see the point of connection where the graft was added to root stock most trees that you find in the nursery will have two tags the first one describes the type of fruit that will grow on that tree in this case an Anna apple and the second tag will'll talk about the root stock onto which that tree is connected in this case an M11 root stock the root stock helps to determine how large the tree will grow and also has various disease resistant qualities root stock can also perform better or worse in different soil types in this case M11 root stocks perform well in wet and poor draining soils but other root stocks perform better in fast draining soils so remember when you're selecting trees for your landscape or home Orchard select tree with an appropriate root stock for your space as well as your soil type and for any disease considerations
