what's up guys how you doing today sit down sit down we're about to learn okay you better get serious today we're going to be talking about portraits how to draw people so grab pen grab piece of paper grab your tablet and follow along with me and boom there's the reference we're going to be using today this is what we're going to be learning from now it's time for step number one it's very important to get the first step right in order to draw good portrait now you might be thinking are we going to start off with some basic shapes first to lay down the foundations no completely wrong the first thing we're going to do is start off with some basic shapes this is the skull of my so usually break the head down into two separate shapes okay number one this round egg shape for the cranium number two long triangular wedge for the front of the face so take your pencil and you want to draw nice round oval don't worry too much about the line quality just get that shape down the next thing you're going to do is start at the front of the oval make straight line down to the chin so we have this oval and we have the front now we want to bring our attention back here to the jaw usually in 3/4 View the jaw is going to start somewhere back here just before the end of your cranium so just bring this line down and then find the peak of that Jawbone right there and connect that to the front of the chin just like that basically big egg to hold your brain with face attached to it now I'm going to move down to the neck and give her an actual body okay so just behind the chin here this is where the neck is going to start and just behind the jaw that is going to be the back of the neck so if you're following along with me you should have something that looks like this right now and if you're not following along with me will destroy you will end your life that is threat that is promise so here's where the fun part starts okay now we want to do measurement from the top of the head to the chin just like that okay and we're going to cut this line in half now you're asking me why are we doing that sh stop with the questions here's little trick okay usually when you're viewing person from eye level I'm not talking about like this or like this the ey line of that person which is where the eyes are placed on the face is just about halfway from the top of the head to the chin this is the top of the head this is the chin now if we draw line through the eyes it's the halfway point so that's very handy rule for your drawings but remember that there's always exceptions to every single rule because artst just annoying like that and people are all built different some people look normal and some people look like Lord farquad is we can't help it and just before we plop that eyeline down on the face there's another curved line that we want to draw from the top of the head down to the chin okay this line runs through the center of the face now if you don't know where to draw the center line just find the middle of the eyebrows shout out to my Indian audiences love burani so this line goes from the top of the head through the center of the eyebrow down to the center of the chin now that we have the center line we're going to just plop this eyeline here right down on the front of the face so now you should have head that has cross on the front of it number one artistic icon that follows the teachings of Jesus so now that we have the ey line and the Center Line next up you want to move your attention upwards and look for the line that runs through the eyebrows as soon as you have this the entire face is done so I'm going to move up just little bit from the ey line and create another parallel line that is the brow line and now it's finished you know why it's finished because once you take this line okay and you take the tip of the chin and if you just divide this in half so this line here right at the halfway point between the elbow the El the El I'm turning it to Joe Biden folks now this guideline here on the front of the face is very useful because our faces are divided into three equal thir so the nose to the chin is 1/3 the brow to the nose is 1/3 the forehead is going to be another thir where this last third of the face ends is where the hairline starts 1 2 three love doing this every time because know if you're little art baby and you've never heard of this before you're mind has just been blown your mind is like my butt after tacos now once you have all this you're basically done the next thing we're going to look for are the eyebrows okay so starting from the center line we're going to draw the tips of the eyebrows okay at equal distances from the center line based on where the brow line is I'm going to draw in the shape that see of this eyebrow don't treat it as hairs treat it as shape so I've just colored in the Brows now one thing you want to be careful of is not to let the Brows absolutely fly on off onto the side of the face all right now that you've got some brows we're going to erase away some of these construction lines at the top the next thing want to do is find the arch of the nose this is the nose Ridge and it's very important in any angle that is not straight on you want to look for how the ridge curves down and out and you want to look for the deepest part of the Ridge and its relationship to the eyeline now we're going to start at the inner corner of this outer eyebrow we're going to move our way in and then around where the ey line is this line is going to flare back out and that's going to give us the tip of the nose in out in okay simple next up we've got the eyes now they do get little bit tricky in 3/4 perspective but I'm going to simplify this for you because I'm stupid so what like to look for is the inner corners of both of the eyes in this reference we can see that the inner corner of the further eye is closer to the nose Ridge than the inner corner of the eye that's closer to us so we know that this eye is going to start somewhere here very close to that nose Ridge and the other eye is going to start somewhere out here little bit further away so this part is important because always say that the distance between your two eyes should be equal to about the length of one of your eyes now this ratio here is going to change as your character turns their head this is because of perspective in this case what you're going to notice is that the eye that's closest to us is longer it's bigger and the eye that's actually further away from us is lot smaller and shorter okay let's find where the outer corner of the eye is going to be let's measure the overall length of the head look at that it's right about halfway another magnificent measurement this usually occurs in 3/4 perspective boom there's the halfway point there's the inner corner of the eye so based on that information now can draw curve that goes up and back down just like that okay that's going to be the upper lid of the eye we're going to do the same curve on the other side it's going to go up and back down just like that and you see lot less of that eye than the one at the front it's going to be shaped more like this the next thing we're going to do is add in the irises these are the round things that you use to look one right there and one right that is Holy Christ that is bad and while you're doing this it does help to flip the canvas horizontal every once in while just to make sure your character is looking in the right direction you know make sure things are actually lining up if anything looks really off just liy okay or you can claim it's stylized now we're going to move our attention down and add in curve for the bottom lid of the eyes okay remember to follow what you see in the reference now again working our way downwards here's the nose and we're going to add in the shape for the nostal if you don't know where to put the nostril just look for relationships okay use some common sense look for the inner corner of the eye look for the outer edge of the nose see if they line up see where they are in relation to each other always look for relation ships seek girlfriend now we're going to work on the mouth and it's really quite simple okay so we're just going to take this Center Line here from the bottom of the nose to the chin we're going to cut this line in half and then just above the halfway point that's where the mouth is going to be that's where the opening of that mouth is going to be so her mouth is little bit open you're going to be able to see little bit of the teeth just above the lip you're going to see little and I'm going to also lightly mark down where the bottom of the lip is going to be and this here this is really all you need okay don't want to see you guys doing your lips like this okay this is too much okay we're not drawing handsome Squidward here now the next thing that we're going to do is we're going to start adding in some details that really refine the face of the character because obviously we started with just two simple geometric shapes so things like the curvature of the face the shape of the chin Etc are not going to be accurate and this is what call the refinement stage okay so like to come up here to the forehead you know kind of work on the curvature here little bit and then as we move down to the eyebrow you're going to see little bit more of curve here on the outside so we're going to just add that curve in there we're also going to add in some double eyelids now just like that and one on this side as well now we're going to follow this cheekbone all the way down to the chin okay give her some curvature some flesh on the face just like that you want to erase away some of these old construction lines as you go and her chin is actually pretty small so we're going to have to kind of shrink this shape down just little bit Erase Away our construction lines follow this curve back up to the tip of that jaw again refining the shape as you go you don't have to be married to your construction lines it's okay to have commitment issues to your construction lines now we'll add in the ears usually very useful measurement is the year starts at where the ey line ends so draw this ey line all the way down and this is going to be the tip of the Year boom look at that this is what you call real art hack knowing the rules there are no shortcuts in this thing stay in school kids see that's looking pretty good now I'm going to just refine the rest of the body little bit okay I'm going to move the neck in add in some of the musculature some of the tendons here's going to be one of the shoulders now she is bald and she could be bald if she wants to be bald but we're not going to keep her bald let's add in some hair you know usually treat hair as like big overall shapes and they do add some volume to the scalp so you're going to have to erase away the cranium and the original shapes that you put down before in order to make way for the volume of the hair we're going to just make sure everything looks correct make some adjustments if we need to and there you go if you actually followed along you should have something very similar to this and now you can really just do whatever you want you know you can start adding in some details you can really finish this off as sketch or you can start adding in some colors and some rendering and you can always simplify and stylize to your heart's content I'm might go and finish this sketch and show you guys the final result on the screen if don't have final result was too lazy but should now you know how to draw perfect human portrait and now know some of you might be thinking what if want to draw man what do do God stop it stop it look it's the exact same thing humongous eyebrows small eyes more pronounced bone structure in the cheeks humongous chin sharp jaw cheekbones jaw big neck no more lashes big chin and now you have man okay it's this same thing come on anyways guys this was inspired by our patreon video this month talking all about drawing portraits we have front view and side view there and it's very long it's very extensive so if that's something that you guys are interested in and you want to learn little bit more have that tutorial and other tutorials available on my patreon along with process videos so you can see how draw and don't use AI anyways guys really appreciate all of your guys' support so that can continue to bring this content to you guys thank you for that love you like this video share with friend who needs desperate help subscribe and I'll see you guys on the next video byebye look at my little boy stepped in pool today very bad don't do that what are you
