hi everybody today I'm going to answer the question what is phrase phrase is piece of information in sentence made up of more than one word phrase is not complete sentence it does not share complete thought and it does not have subject and verb like this example the book was sitting on the table this group of words has subject which is book and verb which is sitting we call this sentence or an independent clause because it can stand alone and because it has subject and verb because this group of words has subject and verb it is not phrase it's not phrase because it has subject and verb it shares complete thought and it's complete sentence phrase also has to be more than one word so book was table and on by themselves are not phrases because these are just individual words in the sentence so let's look at that sentence again and see if we can find some phrases on the table is phrase it does not have subject and verb but these words together share an important piece of information the book and was sitting are also phrases let's look at those phrases and see what information they give us the words on the table clearly go together and they tell us where the book is the two words the book go together because they tell us the noun in the sentence now we know what is on the table and the words was sitting tell us what the book is doing on the table so those two words go together and give us an important piece of information as well to review one more time phrase is piece of information in sentence made up of more than one word to watch more videos just like this one subscribe to my channel or visit me at dr.
