Shik Zed bin Sultan al- Nahan was the founding father of the United Arab Emirates and served as its first president from 1971 to 2004. He was born in 1918 in Abu Dhabi and became ruler of the emirate in 1966. At the time the region was underdeveloped and had limited resources but Shik Zed had vision to transform the desert into thriving modern nation. When the British withdrew from the Gulf in the early 1970s, Shik Zed led the unification of seven Emirates. On December 2nd, 1971, the United Arab Emirates was officially formed with Zed as its first president. Under his leadership, the UAE saw massive development. He used oil revenues to build roads, hospitals, schools, and housing. He also invested heavily in agriculture, planting millions of trees and working to make the desert bloom. Shik Zed was known for his generosity, wisdom, and commitment to unity. He believed that wealth should be used to benefit all people, and he promoted education, healthare, and equal opportunities. Internationally, he was respected as peaceful leader. He supported the creation of the Gulf Cooperation Council in 1981 and helped strengthen ties with other nations. By the time of his passing in 2004, Shik Zed had transformed the United Arab Emirates from small desert region into strong respected nation. He is remembered as leader of vision, compassion, and incredible legacy. That's why he is known as the father of the nation.
