How to make treasures with tin casting

hi in this video I'm going to show you how to make tin castings of seashells and all the small stuff this is very fun project to do with your kids and family it involves hot metal so you have to be careful and bear protection gear but before we get to the casting we need form to make the casting scene make mine in Plywood And depending on what you're casting you can make them in different sizes we're only going to make castings of small seashells and don't have the need for big form here you can see me marking and it drilling holes with hole saw in the oak plywood it's very dense plywood so have to hold it very firmly have the two parts here and glued them together with ordinary wood glue and use some CA glue too with the wood activator to make them Bond faster so can keep on working this is the bottom part the top part I'll make some recesses for the line screws lag bolts have to line them up probably to to make them go in easier then have some Wing nuts on the top to make it easy to hand tighten and then make the hole where pour the molten tins then it's off to the beach with my kids to get some seashells it was very beautiful day and we got some different kinds of shells to make imprints of and this is what use for for the casting we take old tin plates don't know if it's kind of alloy or something over or if it's just tin but yeah you can tell it by the soft metal it's very easy to bend and it has low melting point so it doesn't take lot of heat to make it melt foreign we use red oil sand specially made for casting and we use them in the lower half of the casting mold press it down firmly have two forms here one would the threaded rod and one with wooden dowel and then we take the seashells and we firmly embed them halfway down in the oil sand and then we take some Stone powder to make it the forms release easier and we take the upper half and take some more sand press down and then carefully take them apart and if you Gentle tap the the seashells and there's actually pine cone there try to remove them carefully and here you can see make small channels for the molten tin to run through so you have to connect them and also make channel for to connect to the hole where you're going to pour the tin and here you can obviously make small channels and make sure there's no debris and no degrees of oil sand in the channel and that can clog them up and so just take your time and make everything yeah as good as possible then you put the forms together again the wooden one is pretty tight so it won't fall apart and and then you heat the metal it doesn't take lot of heat and on the top here you can see there is lot of impurities so you have to remove that so it's so it's easy to pour and won't clog up and then you pour it as gentle as you can down the hole and it only takes few seconds then you just remove the top of the lid actually reuse the sand just try to scrape off the Stone powder with knife and there you can see me using some pliers to to separate the castings the it actually turned out pretty good the kids the kids was happy they made Treasures out of silver guess gold there the cone actually turned out pretty good make sure make sure everything is doesn't contain lot of water because because water and heat doesn't act good together there you go if you want to make your own have links in the description where you can buy the things you need to make the casting you can also buy actually the tin so you don't have to go scavenge their neighborhood for all 10 plates please like And subscribe and I'll see you in the next video
