welcome to this segment on hadith number six of urbain the translation is on the authority of abu abdullah may allah be pleased with both of them who said heard the messenger of allah peace be upon him say that which is lawful is clear and that which is unlawful is clear and between the two of them are doubtful or ambiguous matters about which not many people are knowledgeable thus he who avoids these doubtful matters certainly clears himself in regard to his religion and his honor but he who falls into the doubtful matters falls into that which is unlawful like the shepherd who pastures around sanctuary all but grazing therein verily every king has sanctuary and allah sanctuary is his prohibitions in the body there is morsel of flesh which if it is sound all the body is sound and which if it is diseased all of the body is disease this part of the body is heart recorded by al-bukhari and muslim as as translated that there is morsel or there is part in your body if it works fine everything works fine and we will we will make the connection with this the the wordings of the hadith and when we see the meaning and commentary on that the importance of this hadees is that it lays down some of the most important principles of islam we will see as we move the hadees covers all the possible acts that is permissible forbidden and doubtful that can be only you know few categories and it covers all of them it points out to the key with respect to the permissible acts in that what should be our attitude to save ourselves from haram you know that is with respect to permissible acts what should be your attitude and then again one one thing that the important matter is the more evidence you will find in quran and sunnah about that so making it very clear the important matters which are halal and which are haram so there's very little which we we have some debate about we should say or there is difference of opinion but most of the things are very clear this is an ayah from surah al-maidah this day are all good things made lawful for you the food of those who have received the scripture is lawful for you and your food is lawful for them so it's like in in an overall guideline this ayah is towards the end of prophet salallahu that allah is saying that have perfected the deen we have seen the hadees before this on introducing that hadees number five that talks about introducing something islam as we said that in this in this collection of hadees there is very good sequence and so the one walks you into the other so now we are talking about this permissible or halal which is called halal permissible or unlawful which is haram and then we talk about something that is recommended so in permissible acts what comes under it is obligatory all the obligatory acts like salat some salms all these things they are they come in this category moreover the recommended acts which is that that is recommended it also comes in the dispatch category and even according to many scholars these disapproved or macro thing also comes until under this category which is permissible and then as said that more important the matter is that more evidence you can find in quran and sunnah about this either they are expl in in case of halal either they are explicitly mentioned as permissible while in the other cases it is clear that they fall under the journal guidance of quran and sunnah for example there are and then if you go to haram or forbidden thing that's also similar way either you will find it clearly stated in case of when it is very severe thing it is very clearly stated and more evidence are found so the the haram are or forbidden are acts that are clearly stated forbidden like committing shirk is greatly forbidding forbidden act heinous crimes like adultery alcohol consumption have been forbidden in no unclear terms so it is very clear others that that come under the general ruling such as various forms of intoxication whether it is by name explicitly mentioned in quran or hadees but they come under the for example various kinds of drugs that they have been invented later on they all come under the general guidance of intoxication being haram and same is the case with the the other which is called myself or the that covers all kinds of lottery and betting so this is these are the two times either these are clearly defined so they come under the general guidelines now come to the matter of doubtful thing that is more you know it needs more more more time the other two are very clearly defined so what are the doubtful matters for example the things which verses of the quran or hadees are conflicting and there is no apparent way to resolve this conflict such things are among the doubtful matters and the other categories in which there is difference of opinion among these scholars so there are scholars who differ one opinion the other has another so that's also doubtful things maybe it's not for us or the people who are not of knowledge to decide about decide about it but the the scholars yes they do debate and they can have difference of opinion there's no no problem in that some permissible matters lead person to do what is forbidden or lead him to fail to perform what is obligatory that is also under the category of doubtful things by itself an act is not haram but it leads you to do something haram or it leads you to keep you away from your obligatory duties of your religion that is also under the category of of of doubtful matters then the matters concerning which there is doubt whether they are permissible or not due to circumstances or you know circumstances surrounding them that's also category that falls under the doubtful matters in that for example there was something it was forbidden as the original ruling take an example the the meat as it's an animal meat is is not halal until it is it is the the animal is sacrificed in particular way the the blood is is you know spilled out and it was done in the name of allah these are some some requirements if it is in the origin in originally it was it was not lawful but by doing so it became become lawful but for you know somebody muslim person offered this day-to-day things if some muslim is offering you some some food then in you know it's there's no need for you to doubt about it that this is not halal it should be halal because you you you trust your brother if it is he is trustworthy it is definitely permissible for someone this is the other category of such things that this something which is permissible for someone and then he has some doubt about it this is very important category when it comes to the day-to-day you know practice that what we if you find for example some water that you want to make make will do from and the water looks like clean no no problem in the color no smell and everything apparently it looks good so there is no need to doubt about it that it may be impure so you go ahead and make your vudu make your life easy islam is to make things easy not to not to make difficult that's how prophet salal sallam was he used to make things difficult this is us ourselves that we make things difficult for ourselves someone should not avoid for example praying in certain area that has no marks of impurities simply because for he fears that there may be impurities present there because this this kind of you know suspicions they come from from shaytan you know this is whispering of shaytan it is make it is to make life difficult for you it is to make practice of religion difficult for you so ultimately you will leave practicing the religion it's so difficult i'm not going it's easy look at what prophet saw has given given to you how he has he has advised his his companions always making things easier for them there's the other message in this in this hadees is about the one who clears himself with regard to his religion and his honor right that means if somebody who is involved in doubtful acts then he is not clearing himself with respect to his religion and honor so he should be he should be ready for any criticism that may come from the people around him from other muslims for example so if he he wants to be clear regarding his honor and his religion he need to stay away from those doubtful things as in very nice way prophet salallahu later on described in the hadees that like shepherd who is grazing around boundary it is it is possible it is it is most likely that the sheeps are going to go in inside that boundary it's very difficult to control them so stay away even for you see for some very serious sins like adultery it says that lot of prophets don't go close to zana so if you go close to the boundary although that itself is not haram that is it there's as said that is hadees wants to very important principles in islam one of the principle is of sadhul azbab that means you put restrictions or you you put hurdle in the way of azbab and the things that are going to create something haram by itself they are not haram for example presence of men and women estranged men and women in in or by themselves in some place and there's definition of kalwa we don't have time to go into that it's in an assignment for you for the viewers to go and find out with this through the scholars what it is but it has to be avoided for various reasons so as said in beautiful way prophet sallallahu assalam put this thing that you don't even go close to that boundary and when also when was talking about that one who goes close to that boundary and who is indulging in these doubtful things may be criticized by the people so he has to be ready and prepared for that there is an incident from prophet sallam's life which may not be directly linked to this matter but it shows you the behavior that how prophet salallahu used to behave to save his honor like when he was walking with his wife and then there are two two people who who who who were it was in night time and he was walking with safiya and there were two people walking from the other side and prophet salallahu showed the face of safiya to them to make sure that they don't bring any doubt in that their mind about who prophet sallam was walking with so this is you know way to preserve or to protect your honor stay clean of anything that is that is doubtful or that may create any doubt but in this particular incident would like to share one very nice explanation of this hadees that someone someone made and he said that it was not so that prophet sallallahu assalam was afraid about his honor at that particular incident but he was afraid about those people that if any doubt would come in their mind about the prophet salallahu sallam what will happen to their own deeds and where they will end up if they will doubt the on about any such matter on prophet sallallahu alaihi it was because of that we already talked about the saddul asbab yanna we need to you need to stop the things before they will happen rather than waiting for the last moment and putting ourselves in the test and then one key thing is that you know when when it becomes an attitude that you start going into the things that are that are doubtful that means you have less care about allah have more care about your lust and your your you you need to enjoy you need to do some things to the limits so that you don't care much about about allah it's possible that you will not get into haram but this will create type of personality in you that you will start challenging the boundaries you start challenging in very challenging allah that you okay again so this is again from shaitaan that that kind of attitude will bring this kind of personality in you and that is the last wording that say in when you keep doing these things it's going to harm your heart and it becomes blackened and black and as in another hadith it says and then again the most you know very very powerful wordings they say either way that facade and regardless of these details and what is lawful and not lawful and what is doubtful and recommended and all that the attitude is important how you feel about allah that is important so we need to be practicing the deen in the way professor has defined stay away from the doubtful so that you cannot you avoid all the possibility or possibilities of going into haram holy hazard foreign
