welcome to math with Mr this video I'm going to cover what the associative property of multiplication is now the associative property of multiplication can be used all throughout math everything from basic multiplication problems to more complex problems to simplifying algebraic expressions to whatever else the case may be the associative property of multiplication is important to be familiar with when it comes to the associative property of multiplication think grouping the grouping of factors doesn't change the product factors are the numbers being multiplied and then the product is the answer to multiplication problem so changing the grouping doesn't change the answer so grouping times times will equal the same exact thing as times times grouped now don't let those letters confuse you they are there to represent numbers and show that this will work for any numbers let's take look at our example and use some numbers in order to see exactly what this means we have 14 times 2 times 5. let's start by grouping 14 and 2 together and work through this so we have 14 times 2 grouped times five now we can multiply starting with the parentheses 14 times 2 that equals 28. bring down the multiplication sign and the five we end with 28 times 5. which equals 140. now let's group the two and the five and see if we get the same thing so 14 times 2 times 5 grouped now we can multiply starting with the parentheses 2 times 5 that equals 10. bring down the multiplication sign and the 14. now we can end with 14 times 10 and that equals 140. so we got 140 that way as well and that's the associative property 14 times 2 grouped times five equals 14 times 2 times 5 grouped changing the grouping of factors didn't change the product we got the same thing either way so there you have it there's an explanation of the associative property of multiplication remember changing the grouping of factors the numbers being multiplied doesn't change the product the answer hope that helped thanks so much for watching until next time peace
