5 simple tips for beginners to design amazing infographics

when we look online on social media we see all these amazing infographics that have been expertly designed but often when you try to design your first infographic it just doesn't quite work that you can make it look as professional or as eye-catching as the ones you see online so here are my top five simple tips that you can apply to make your infographics really dazzle tip one know your key message this is core for the infographic what is it you're trying to say and who are you trying to say it to the worst infographics are just flooded with information you're not sure if it's for you if it's for another audience and there's so much there that you it's hard to know what the takeaway is before you start what is the underlying goal of creating your infographic what key message are you trying to convey to your audience because that needs to be your focus of everything you do when you create your infographic tip two aim for balance and aim for consistency and mean consistency with the font style with the font size with the colors with the spacing consistency is one of the things that can make your infographic look beautiful when everything's squashed together in one place or there's loads of space in another place when you're an expert designer you can make that work but when you're starting out just aim for consistency so go through after you've done it and just check if there's anything that needs to be balanced or matched up then do that it'll look lot slicker in the end tip three summarize don't rewrite when people are doing infographics of topic or an article there is tendency just to put all the information on there what you're trying to do is summarize the essence of an article or topic in an infographic you're not trying to reproduce the whole article in an infographic think carefully about what you're including and what you're trying to get across in the infographic as opposed to someone just being able to read the full article tip four don't add ridiculously long links we often see infographics where there's links in it but they are crazy long they're url that you are never going to be able to remember or be bothered to type in because your infographics are being shared online the links aren't going to be clickable in it so they need to be useful for people that means you're going to want to use short link or something that is memorable rather than just posting random link to paper with lots of numbers that no one is going to be able to look up so you can use many short link creators create an easy link that you can then put into your infographic it makes it more accessible for people it means that the information you're providing is actually useful and that people are more likely to go on and read more and follow up the references that you mentioned and point five ruthlessly edit editing is the biggest thing that will improve your infographics when see first drafts of infographics they almost always need to be completely pared down and that's because every single word in your infographic it needs to have purpose that is what makes good infographic is not adding all the extra fluff that you might sometimes find in articles you want the core point you want the core message so think of every word every image doesn't need to be there and why if you can cut it out then do it doesn't need to be in the infographic your best infographic is going to get across your key message in the least words possible and using images that enhance that not just add for the sake of adding images not just words for the sake of having them there so really take the time take the most time after you've done your bit of initial draft of the infographic spend the bulk of your time actually editing it down and thinking really carefully about what should be there and why with these five tips you will be able to apply these and make your infographics look good even if it's your first go at trying to make one if you enjoyed this video you'll really like my video on how to make your slides accessible which you can see here
